                          The Award Recipients

The annual ICAS Chairman’s Banquet always concludes the annual convention. Held this year on the evening of December 12, the black-tie optional
event is when ICAS hands out the industry’s most-coveted awards for the past airshow season. Congratulations to the 2024 award recipients.

          ICAS Sword of ExCEllEnCE
Given each year since 1981 to recognize outstanding service
and personal contributions to the airshow industry, the ICAS
Sword of Excellence is the single highest honor in the airshow
          industry.
The 2024 Sword recipient was airboss George Cline. A re-
tired FAA Air Traffic Controller, George has been an airboss for
over 25 years. He was recognized for his career spent advocat-
ing for safety, his role as a mentor, and the work he has done as
an educator and leader within the airshow community. He has
also served as a Board member for both ICAS and SECAS and
has built a reputation for being a tireless champion for increased
professionalism at airshows. Cline is the 50th Sword recipient.

The 2024 award went to Dennis Dunbar. Singled-out for the
trailblazing and creative work he has done over the last several
years to make night airshows more entertaining and dramatic,
Dunbar becomes the first event organizer to be named as a re-
cipient of an award that had previously been presented to only

The Dick Schram Memorial Community Relations Award is
presented each year to the military airshow, open house, or fly-
ing event that best represents the spirit of community for which
Dick Schram stood throughout his naval career.
The 2024 award went to Canadian Forces Base Cold Lake
for its presentation of the 2024 Cold Lake Air Show. The Cold
Lake team was recognized for the organizational agility that they
demonstrated by reconfiguring the event into a ground-based
show when dense smoke from wildfires in east central Alberta
kept most of the aircraft from performing. The massive adjust-
ment was conceived and executed in an extremely short period
of time and was well-received by both the aircraft crews and
          Cold Lake residents.
