French whipping: a simple decorative covering based on half hitches, and
ideal for covering rails or ends where a good grip is necessary.
Secure a line to the object being covered with a clove hitch, and working
with one end form a continuous series of half hitches around the object
(figure 70). When the required length is reached you can finish the end
with a decorative knot, such as a Turk’s head.
