Wagoner’s hitch or lorry driver’s hitch: a traditional method used by
lorry drivers to lash down loads, it combines a knot with a purchase which
allows the standing part to be bowsed down (see page 23) really tightly.
Form a small bight in the working end and pass this over the standing part
(figure 148.1). Now take a round turn around the bight with the standing
part (figure 148.2), which provides a larger second bight. Twist this bight
anticlockwise (figure 148.3). Form another bight in the working end,
passing this through the remaining loop of the twisted bight. This last
bight in the end of the rope can be used to drop over a hook (in our
illustration figure 148.4, a finger) to provide purchase when the end is
secured.
