               Wagoner’s hitch or lorry driver’s hitch: a traditional method used by

               lorry drivers to lash down loads, it combines a knot with a purchase which
               allows the standing part to be bowsed down (see page 23) really tightly.


               Form a small bight in the working end and pass this over the standing part
               (figure 148.1). Now take a round turn around the bight with the standing
               part (figure 148.2), which provides a larger second bight. Twist this bight
               anticlockwise (figure 148.3). Form another bight in the working end,
               passing this through the remaining loop of the twisted bight. This last
               bight in the end of the rope can be used to drop over a hook (in our

               illustration figure 148.4, a finger) to provide purchase when the end is
               secured.
