Eye splice (in the middle of a rope): this is formed in a similar way to the
eye splice at the end of a rope, except that in this instance the rope is
deliberately forced against its lay by twisting it in opposite directions
(figure 61.1). Make a bight to the size of the required eye in the standing
part, and use the three untwisted laid bights to tuck into the standing
part to make a normal eye splice (see page 76). The first tuck is shown in
figure 61.2.
