     SERVING AS ONE
2019-2020
Haiti – Scioto Ridge members have been involved in mission trips to Haiti in 2010, 2011, 2013, and 2015. The team typically provides early childhood education and VBS like activities for in-patient children and for more than 100 families per day who visit the outpatient clinics at Grace Children’s Hospital in Port-au-Prince.
South Sudan – The Buckeye Clinic began in 2009 in South Sudan, Africa. Scioto Ridge members met two of the Lost Boys of Sudan who were attending The Ohio State University, and their dream was to bring medical care to their village of Piol by building a health clinic. Members of Scioto Ridge and others formed a team to improve maternal and child health in the village. Our church provides funds for building supplies and food.
China – Scioto Ridge members partner with Visiting Orphans organization to visit an orphanage in China. They provide foster families with groceries and provide care and comfort to children.
Other Outreach and Opportunities to Serve in Missions
Hilliard Community Assistance Council – This organization operates the Hilliard Food Pantry. Scioto Ridge is active in its mission by providing non-perishable food items, management support, food delivery and financial support. We pick-up food donations from the Mid-Ohio Food Bank and community resources and help serve clients during the week.
Outlive Your Spring Break – Every March, Scioto Ridge offers families and individuals the opportunity to spend their spring break in missional service together. Some might choose to deliver meals to shut-ins through Meals on Wheels while others have cleaned the Boys and Girls Club of America center. People have spent time visiting with residents at a local nursing home or cleaning up an area of Columbus streets.
Hilliard Villagers – A group of individuals provide one-on-one tutoring to elementary students in the Hilliard area. Using a district approved reading intervention system, they help kindergarten and first grade students improve their reading and writing skills.
Missionaries – Scioto Ridge provides financial support to one missionary who provides housing and outreach services to the Church For All People UMC on the south side of Columbus.
Fundraisers – The missions team facilitates three fundraisers throughout the year. Funds raised from the Chicken BBQ in the summer, the meatloaf and ham loaf sales in the spring and fall, and the Christmas time Uncle Ray’s Peanut Brittle sale are used towards the mission efforts of Scioto Ridge.
Most of our mission ministries were started by individuals or groups who saw a need and followed through. It is our greatest desire that when someone sees an area of need, they feel empowered and equipped to respond with confidence. Scioto Ridge and the mission team are ready and available to discuss any opportunities you see for transforming the world.
In 2019-2020, Missions Teams will Serve As One by:
• Recruiting more people into existing missional
opportunities.
• Equipping and empowering people to step out of their comfort zone to serve others.
• Developing a strategy to mentor others in missional practices.
• Expanding our missions opportunities both locally and globally.
