When Ray and Linda Miller retired in 2003, they entered into a very serious time of prayer. Where was God leading them? How could they put their new time to the best use? What were they being called to do? Through a set of interesting circumstances, they found their way to the Henderson Settlement in Frakes, Kentucky. And the call came clearly and loudly. They were meant to make this particular world a better place to live. With a team of volunteers, they would replace windows in homes during their first trip. No one on the team knew anything about replacing windows. So, the only thing to do was learn. They went to a local home improvement store and met a man named Rick. Rick would come to the church and teach them about installing windows; however, after learning of their mission he too felt the call. He went with them on their trip and has gone ever since. Over the years, the annual trip to Henderson has brought many people, both Scioto Ridge members and non-members alike, face to face with poverty. But there is no place for judgement, only love and acceptance. These team members build relationships and connections while building decks, installing floors, and painting homes. When a little boy starts helping to install his new floor, he is seeing God’s love one floor board at a time.
