A new repertorisation based on this addition shows Rhus tox is not worse at night! The medicine was now changed to Apis mel 30c twice daily. Within 24-48 hours everything came back to normal as you can see in the last photo.
I know with conventional steroid/antihistamine treatment this condition is never cured, however I find with a good homeopathic medicine, the hives may return, but each time with less intensity and we usually then expect a long term cure.

The reason the owners brought Bella was repetitive suffering with anal gland problems during the last few years. She had also been receiving regular acupuncture to control fitting. Bella had in the past had a few fits. They happened when she was eating; she used to eat very fast: she sucked up her food. Now her owner makes her eat slower. She gasped for breath during the fits. They have stopped since the acupuncture.
It is thought that the fits started after the Alpha bitch of the pack died, Bella adored her. She used to follow this bitch everywhere, now the other dogs look up to her. She got used to her new position and is settled now.
On examination the ‘anal gland’ problem appears to be an irritation of the vulva. The ventral parts of the labia are slight swollen and the insides are slight inflamed. She will
lick the perineal area until it is completely wet. There may be two problems present because the owner said that pre- vious vet regularly needed to empty her anal glands which usually stopped the licking (?). At the time of my examination there is not much to find wrong with the anal glands.
‘She had a personality change when we started doing agility with her and a wooden poll fell on her. She was a reluctant agility dog: she wandered off, once sat on top of the A frame but at 5 she suddenly started to enjoy it and became a very successful competitor. She gained confidence at 5-6 years old. She started to enjoy working when I was less serious about it and made it more fun for her. (We even thought about rehoming her.)’
She was spayed at 7 months before her first season.
