Ira Eaker Chapter Life Member and Korean War Vet
By Bob Davis
Looking over his Grandfather’s DD-214, Andrew Weaver asks, “Granddad, where are your medals?” “Well, I never received them”, answers Guy “Buddy” Carr. “I know that I was awarded them, but they were never presented to me.”
Guy Carr, a Korean War Veteran was stationed at Kunson Air Base, Korea with the 90th Bomb Squadron. Flying as a Flight Engineer, Guy completed 54 missions in the B-26’s, bombing trains and rail road tracks at night.
Andrew knew that U. S. Congressman French Hill had an office in Conway, Arkansas so he contacted his office and was put in touch with Thomas McNabb, Director of Military and Veteran affairs. Mr. McNabb, with a copy of Guy’s DD- 214, went through the proper channels and verified the awards.
On August 3, 2018, U. S. Congressman French Hill presented Guy Carr his Distinguished Flying Cross, the Air Medal with 2 bronze oak leaf clusters, the U. S. Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal.
The members from the Ira Eaker Chapter of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society presented Mr. Carr with a DFC license plate, a DFC hat and a Life membership in the DFC Society.
Mr. Carr resides in the Brookdale assisted Living Home in Conway, Arkansas.
