METHODS:
This research tested the effect of friction on the speed of a Sphero Bolt ball-shaped rolling robot on two
different floor surfaces, carpet, and hardwood/tile. We did this to see if friction had an effect on robot
performance and to what extent would performance be impacted.
RESULTS:
Our results showed that there was a significant difference in the speeds of the Sphero Bolt ball-shaped rolling
robot on the two different floor surfaces. We, therefore, had to reject our null hypothesis which stated that there
was no significant difference in the two speeds of the Sphero Bolt ball-shaped rolling robot on the two different
floor surfaces.
CONCLUSION:
This study found that friction has a considerable effect on the speed of a Sphero Bolt ball-shaped rolling robot
and thus the overall performance of that robot. The amount of friction exerted caused this type of robot to not
work at its maximum performance.
