RESULTS:
The survey results showed that concept maps helped students improve their understanding of each topic
and were an easy way for students to understand potentially complex chemistry topics. Although most
students reported that they did not need a concept map to learn and understand the chemistry topics, they
all reported that they would highly likely use them in the future to enhance their learning.
DISCUSSION:
The results supported our hypothesis that if students used concept maps, they would have a better
understanding of chemistry-related topics. This study did not compare student performance before and
after using concept maps. Our study was solely based on how students felt about the use of concept maps
in learning certain Chemistry topics. Further research in this area should continue to compare the
performance of students before and after using concept mapping.
ORIGINALITY/VALUE:
This study focused on understanding one efficient resource for students to increase their understanding of
Chemistry topics.
