 CHAPTER 33 - I’M RIGHT HERE
Bobbi Ann the Boxer/Golden Border Collie - Unique: I started my military journey with four years of Marine Corps Junior ROTC and fell in love with the military mentality and general lifestyle of the discipline, dedication, integrity, and over all work ethic. Not only was I active in JROTC but as a member of the JROTC program I elected to become a member of the Lady Leatherneck Drill Team. The requirements of the Drill Team (Demilitarized Individual Regulation Drill and Exhibition) and being held to a higher standard than that of the regular cadets is what ignited my desire to join the military. While in my senior year of high school I asked my guardians to allow me to enlist in the Kentucky National Guard, they consented and signed the contract allowing my enlistment. Without question or hesitation, I would enlist again.
Through my military experience my most positive lesson was that if you tell me I can’t do something, I will in turn take your challenge, turn it around and show you 10 different ways I can do what was said I could not, within reason of course! I may pay for it later but I pride myself on adapting and trying my best to overcome, either with myself or the help of Bobbi Ann, family and friends.
I would likely support my child if he wanted to join the military simply because there is nothing else in the world that offers you the type of experiences; instills the work ethic that sets you up for success in anything you do; and establishes a bond that no distance or amount of time can break. I would, however, want to make sure he was aware of all the hard work both mentally and physically that is expected of him, how much responsibility would eventually fall on him, and how as a result of this
