On January 20, 2018, 1SG (Ret) Brent Myers took his life. He left behind a wife of 25 years and two sons. It seemed on the outside he had it all, a successful wife, sons making their own way in college and the civilian sector, a getaway cabin, and friends who truly cared for him. But why did he do it? Brent no longer has to deal with any problems, however, he just passed them on to everyone else.
How do I know Brent Myers? Brent and I served as Army Ranger Instructors in Dahlonega, GA (Mountain Phase of Ranger School). He was one of the first guys I met when I arrive at Camp and we became very good friends. We also competed as a team in the 2004 Best Ranger Competition placing 7th. To say the least our families were close as well. After retirement, Brent and I would talk for several hours a week and send hundreds of texts every week. I never got the impression, nor did he hint that he was
