“When an eighty-five-pound mammal licks your tears away, then tries to sit on your lap, it's hard to feel sad.” - Kristan Higgins
Courtenay: When the group of us were mobilized we actually had no idea where we were going to end up. Regardless, Chinhae was almost like Mayberry, just in a foreign country. I was stationed there for an entire year while the rest were replaced after only six months. Damn the ‘bad’ luck!
Anyway, I did get to travel just a little, because one of my Sailors needed a travel buddy and I hadn't taken any leave. We took the train most of the way, but at one point we had a stop at a Rest Area. When we got there, it was pretty nice and quiet and there was almost no one there. I went to use the bathroom because the toilet on the train was less than desirable.
I found a stall and did my business...and when I was finishing up and I started hearing a dull roar that continued to get louder and louder until it sounded like the crowd from a football game, except that it was coming from right there in the bathroom.
All of a sudden, my door started rattling...and I peered under the door and under the stall walls on both sides and saw slipper-like shoes all around me. My door continued to rattle while I struggled to finish my business and tried to decide whether or not it was safe to leave the perceived safety of the stall.
The knocking and the rattling got louder as I waited. I finally decided to open the door only to be surrounded be a sea of old women all the same height...and pretty much all dressed in the same manner...they were trying to crowd around me to get into the stall while I was still trying to get out.
All I could think was 'minions...I'm surrounded by minions'. I was literally looking down at the tops of all of their heads. I was truly frightened.
