Of course, now with Millie, and with Satellite before her, it helps me a lot. But now they are trying to take the dog away from me...to basically wean me off of relying on the dog...but that, to me, is a crock. I will do what I want to, concerning that anyway. They think they can treat you in their little sessions and then in groups where you don't have to rely on that aspect (the dog) to deal with things. The first time they did my psychological evaluation via Telehealth I told them that this is absolutely no benefit to me whatsoever. I don't really think that Telehealth would really be beneficial to anyone unless it was maybe just a call to check in or follow-up with individuals to make sure they are doing okay. I personally think it's a total waste of time.
I got hurt while I participated in a Marine Corps recreational sport event during a break in training. It was called Push Ball and it was played with a six-foot diameter ball. Someone hit the ball and it went up in the air just as the two Marines went to hit it at the bottom. Those two Marines were running full speed and collided with my knee. So instead of the ball being there for them to hit, my knee was there instead. Afterwards my foot was laying on my chest. Everything was torn up. I got hauled off in an Army ambulance. Immediately afterwards I had to have 11 hours of knee surgery. I don't think I ever really did recover from that. They went ahead and released and discharged me even though they knew I'd be going to rehabilitation afterwards. It was probably a good year before I was back to any sort of semblance of normality. All in all, I think my PTSD cause goes back to the number of surgeries I have had. Most of them were done by the VA, there were a few that weren't. But it all goes back to that injury. If I hadn't had that injury, I never would have had to have any of those surgeries.
My wife is my caregiver. She is not officially a VA caregiver. She has doing it for the last six years or so, at least. She takes care of making sure I am always okay, day and night. She makes sure I take my medications, that my blood pressure is okay. I am on blood pressure monitoring. She hasn't officially gone into that mode, even though she quit work to be home with me and to take care of me. It puts a strain on us financially but that's what she felt she needed to do under our circumstances. She probably could qualify for caregiver status. We got a specially adaptive handicapped grant from the VA, so everything's just king of torn up right now at our house.
They are getting the house ready because I am probably getting ready to lose my leg. That's why
