“DIRT ON MY BOOTS”

“Dirt On My Boots” is the second single from Jon Pardi’s album California Sunrise, and is a
follow up to another hit song by Pardi about the fashionable and famous Country footwear
– the No. 1 “Head Over Boots.”
Written by Rhett Akins, Jesse Frasure and Ashley Gorley, the pop-leaning track rides SONG OF THE YEAR NOMINEES
a danceable rhythm but lyrically, it maintains a down-home, country-fried flavor. The
songwriting for the song took off at a writing session, when Akins showed up during
hunting season in his muddy truck. The title for the song originally was “Mud On My Truck.”
But Rhett took a closer look at his 10-year-old, worn, dirty boots, and that led to a title
change and a casting of the song’s lead character.
At the end of a tough day plowing the fields, he hops off his tractor, and cleans up so he
can take his girl out for a night of dancing. He promises to kick off some dirt on the dance
floor, and at the end of the night, he’ll kick off his boots to keep from dirtying his girlfriend’s
house. Now his intentions become clear.

“We just tried to put everything in there we could about boots and going out and having a
good time,” Akins told Billboard.com. “We really just wanted to paint the picture of a guy
you’d root for.”

“TIN MAN”

JACK INGRAM, MIRANDA LAMBERT AND JON RANDALL

Miranda Lambert says her smash hit “Tin Man” — written with Jon Randall and Jack Ingram
— is a tribute to her favorite Kenny Chesney song of the same name. The songwriters
penned the hit in the summer of 2015 on what Lambert and her co-writers refer to as her
“magical front porch.”
“This song sort of wrote itself,” she says. “I was a little worried at first about writing another
song like that but I told Kenny . . . I felt the same emotion I feel when I hear that song. I was
feeling it myself and the other two co-writers were feeling it as well. It comes from the same
place and I guess it inspired it.”
“Tin Man” was not initially released as a single, but it earned fan accolades and debuted
at No. 1. Since then, the song has amassed more than 2.4 million streams on Spotify and
earned a spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
