THE OPPORTUNITY
Meditation has developed into a major business enterprise as 40% of Americans say they meditate weekly. Supported by a number of scientific research papers quantifying its effects, the market for meditation, often called mindfulness, generated $1.2B in US revenue in 2017. According to Marketdata Enterprises, US revenue is projected to grow at 11.4% annually, reaching $2.08B in 2022. The industry encompasses meditation studios, retreat centers, and product and app companies. With more than 1,000 meditation apps geared toward audio meditation, the leading app, Headspace, generates more than $50M annually. Businesses like Google, Apple, General Mills, Goldman Sachs, and Aetna have adopted other mindfulness programs for their employees.
Considering that Lightflow can be used with any other application, we believe that Lightflow will expand this market and increase growth rates. If you can be happier while using Facebook, or more focused while using Microsoft Excel, why wouldn’t you use Lightflow?
One Harvard study found that participants in an eight-week mindfulness and relaxation program used 43% fewer medical services than year than they did the previous year. They saved on average $2,360 on emergency room visits alone. As far as productivity, Aetna estimated a gain of $3,000 per employee in labor productivity alone following a company mindfulness program.
