                                                                                                                                   document outlines the CPA approach in detail and sets out clear methods for each
                                                                                                                                   area of number and calculation, from Early Years through to Upper Key Stage 2. It
                                                                                                                                   provides guidance on the appropriate use of manipulatives, pictorial strategies, and
                                                                                                                                   written methods at each stage of learning. Parents and carers are encouraged to re-
                                                                                                                                   fer to the policy when supporting homework, so that children encounter consistent

                                                                                                                                   methods both at home and in school. The policy is available by clicking below and

                                                                                                                                   with their child’s mathematical journey.

            Embedding the CPA Approach at Abuja Prep
            In every classroom across the school, you’ll see evidence of this progression. In
            Early Years, children might use counters to make number bonds to 10. In Key

            Stage 1, they move on to drawing part-whole models and bar charts. By Key Stage
            2, pupils are solving word problems using formal written methods, with a secure
            conceptual understanding built on years of concrete and visual learning.
