Oysterman’s Stopper Knot




                                                       Trailing from an oyster boat, Clifford Ashley, the
                                                      author of The Ashley Book of Knots, saw what he

                                                                thought was a new knot, and he set about
                                                          copying it; this is the result. However, when he

                                                           came to actually untie the knot he had seen, it
                                                              turned out to just be a simple figure-of-eight
                                                                 knot tied in a very old and frayed piece of

                                                                rope. This happy accident gives us another
                                                                                     bulky stopper knot to use.
