Aaron Lee Ward was born in
Booneville in 1896. He played
as an in-fielder for the New
York Yankees (1917-1926), the
Chicago White Sox (1927), and the
Cleveland Indians (1928). He was a
fierce defensive player with a .970
fielding percentage and earned
a career batting average of .268
over 1,059 games. He is most
famous for getting the first hit
for the Yankees and subsequently
receiving a baserunning error by
being thrown out at 3rd base to
end the final game of the 1921
World Series.
