Experiential Learning
Experiential Learning provides students with the opportunity to explore occupations and industries in
addition to utilizing their academic training in real world work experiences. Students are able to
participate in different experiential learning opportunities to aid them in their exploration and
identification of occupations and industries of interest through the Career Development Center.
Students can engage in the following experiential learning programs: Cooperative Education Program,
Internship Program, Job Shadow Program and the Bowie Day Program. To learn more about our
experiential learning opportunities and applicable program requirements, visit the Career
Development Center website at http://www.bowiestate.edu/campus-life/the-career-development-
center/students/.

Henry Wise Student Health and Wellness Center
Director: Dr. Rita Wutoh
All registered students are required to submit a complete health history and a record of
immunizations to the Henry Wise Student Health and Wellness Center prior to admission.
Documentation regarding the status of the meningitis vaccination should be submitted to the housing
department where that immunization is required.
All registered students; full-time, part-time and graduates, are eligible for a range of primary care
services offered in the Student Health and Wellness Center. All students are assessed a health fee as
part of their tuition. Students are expected to pay for services such as laboratory testing and physical
examinations for certain types of employment. Students are referred to health care resources in the
community for services that are unavailable in the Health Center. The Center is staffed with a nurse
practitioner, a registered nurse, and a part-time physician. All services and records are confidential
and information on a student’s condition or health status will not be released without the student’s
written consent.
All full time undergraduates are required to have health insurance that covers expenses incurred
for medical services beyond the scope of the Student Health and Wellness Center. A low-cost
group Accident and Sickness Insurance Policy designed especially for Bowie State University
students is available through the University. International students are required to purchase the
student health insurance.
