Congratulations!
YouthBuild-Lakeland re- cently held a commencement exercise for its eleventh cycle of program participants. The host-site was the Coleman- Bush Center in Lakeland. Opening remarks and a warm welcome were extended by Janiene Bambridge, Pro- gram Manager, who also served as Mistress of Cere- mony. Benjamin Steven- son, Executive Director of the Lakeland Housing Authority gave remarks and presented certificates of completion to the participants.
Dr. Marsha Leap, CEO of Leap Ahead Professional Development rendered words of encouragement as the guest speaker. Other supporting staff members were: Rick Mooneyham, Academic In- structor; Terry Love, Con- struction Instructor; and Sondra Lowe, Administra- tive Assistant.
Congratulations to those who successfully completed the YouthBuild-Lakeland Pro- gram’s Cycle 11: James Beck
Jr., Jalen Brown, Thomas Edwards, Shakala Hicks, LeAnthony Jenkins, Joshua Joyce, Dominique Manor, Wykesha Murray, Justin Paul, Erin Piche- Pitts, Jaycie Rose, Kristyn Rose, Kimberly Smith, Thomas Strange, and Tyler Strong. YOUTH- BUILD-LAKELAND is a six-month program that was founded in 2007.
A goal of the program is to help young adults, 18 to 24 years of age, to work towards improving their lives by com- pleting the necessary steps to obtain their GED and learn job skills. Participants receive classroom instruction to pre- pare for the GED exam, op- portunities to receive certifications in forklift, OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR and PACT, a nationally recognized car- pentry training program. In addition, participants work on an actual Habitat for Human- ity worksite where they re- ceive hands-on training in construction and learn to build affordable housing for
low-income families. There is also a strong emphasis placed on career development, per- sonal development and lead- ership development.

Family And Friends Help Matriarch Celebrate Her 98th Birthday

Family and friends culminated the birthday celebration by attending church at Greater New Hope Anointed Church, in Plant City with Mrs. Hinson.
and raised 4 additional chil-
dren. Two of them were her
grandson and granddaughter, and the other two were the last of her foster children.
During the celebration, Mrs. Hinson had an oppor- tunity to reflect over her life and spend time with 5 genera- tions of family members. She has more than 90 grandchil- dren and numerous great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.
Mrs. Hinson was pre- sented proclamations from the Gadsden County Board of County Commissioners and the Polk County Board of County Commissioners.
Both proclamations de- clared September 5, 2015 as “Josephine Hinson Day.”
On September 5th, family members of Mrs. Josephine Hinson traveled to Lakeland. The group gathered in honor of her 98th birthday.
Mrs. Hinson’s celebra- tion took place at the Cleve- land Heights Golf Clubhouse. Mrs. Hinson has been a res- ident of Lakeland since mov- ing from Havana in 1971.
Mrs. Hinson began her adult life at 16 when she mar- ried her late husband, Bertrey Hinson. The couple became the parents of 14 chil- dren, 10 sons and 4 daughters.
In addition to having her own children, Mrs. Hinson also provided foster care to other children. She and her husband adopted at infancy,
