Judge Believes Former S. C. Police Officer A Flight Risk; Denies Bond
WASHINGTON, DC — In a move symbolic of its commitment of service to humanity, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. (PBS) In- ternational President, Jonathan A. Mason, Sr. turned over the keys to of- fice space in the community service organization’s head- quarters to Dr. Benjamin F. Chavis Jr. to serve as the National Mobilization Headquarters for the 20th Anniversary Million Man March.
In 1995, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.’s interna- tional corporate offices served as the official head- quarters for the inaugural Million Man March.
Scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 10, 2015, “Justice or Else!” The 20th Anniversary Million Man March will focus on “justice” for individuals of every ethnic background.
“We are once again proud to announce our commitment to the Million Man March. Twenty years ago, Phi Beta Sigma Frater- nity, Inc. stepped forward and offered our headquar- ters as the staging location for the historic march,” said Jonathan A. Mason, Sr.
“Today, we celebrate the march’s milestones and re- inforce our ‘I Am My Brother’s Keeper’ initiative,
A former South Carolina police officer charged with murder in the April shooting an unarmed Black man in the back will remain jailed, according to a court order.
Former North Charleston police officer Michael Slager, 33, has been denied bond. He is charged with killing Walter Scott, 50, following an April traffic stop for a broken taillight.
Circuit Judge Clifton Newman issued an order
Monday afternoon saying that evidence presented Thursday from 9th Circuit Solicitor Scarlett Wilson concerning whether Slager would pose a flight risk was “persuasive.”
"The court finds that re- lease of Defendant would constitute an unreasonable danger to the community, and the request for release on bond should be denied," the news organization re- ported the order read.

We are once again grateful to Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity for con- tinuing its national leader-
ship role by providing their resolute support of the 20th Anniversary of the Million Man March. The best way to celebrate Black history is to make more his- tory.”

From Her Church For Criticizing
Pastor’s Preaching Style
Suspect That Killed Kentucky Trooper Was Allegedly Affiliated With ‘Black Lives Matter’ Movement
ELBERTON, GA --- A 103-year-old Georgia woman has been kicked out of her church for disagree- ing with her pastor's preach- ing style, with members even calling the police on the woman, who has been a part of the congregation for some 90 years.
According to the report, Genora Ham Biggs and the Rev. Tim Mattox of Union Grove Baptist Church in Elberton, Ga., have been going back and forth over his preaching, which Biggs calls a "holiness style" that has been adopted at the church since he was hired about six years ago. Biggs says that sort of preaching doesn't belong in a Baptist church.
“At one point he had a crew in here and they were holler-

ing and falling out in the middle of the floor. We don't do that in the Baptist Church," Biggs, who has been going to the church since she was 11 years old, said.
The argument culmi- nated in August when Mat- tox sent Biggs a letter saying that she would no longer be welcome in church or on church property "for any reason whatsoever."
Allegedly, a Missouri man suspected of fatally shooting a Kentucky state trooper was an active supporter of the "Black Lives Matter" move- ment who advocated against violence, a Facebook page shows.
Joseph Thomas John- son-Shanks, who was fa- tally shot by police Monday morning, appears to have regularly posted videos and articles on police shootings.
On that Facebook page, photos appear to show the 25-year-old St. Louis man at- tending a funeral service for Michael Brown, was shot dead by a Ferguson police of- ficer in 2014. It also shows him attending local protests in the days and weeks after.
"Some of y'all don't un- derstand the more violence that occurs is less justice for Mike Brown the focus should be on him," he posted on a "Justice for Mike Brown" Facebook page on Aug. 14, 2014, one week after Brown's death. While at

business deal.
“I looked at the great
times urging calm, his page also shared news reports and videos claiming to capture "police brutality." One such video was classified, al- legedly by Johnson- Shanks, as being a "pure example of our Protectees (Police)."
Despite his anti-violent posts, a little more than a year later, Johnson- Shanks would meet the
same fate as Brown. Kentucky State Police say
he led a trooper on a high- speed chase Sunday night before stopping short and shooting Trooper Joseph Cameron Ponder multiple times.
He then abandoned his vehicle and fled the scene on foot, leading to a manhunt that ended in him being cor- nered by police.
Basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal refused to team up with coffee giant Starbucks because “Black people don’t drink coffee.”
“My agent called me up and he says ‘Howard Schultz wants to do busi- ness with you’,” O’Neal said, “And I’m like, ‘coffee, eh.’ Because growing up, in my household, I’d never seen a Black person drink coffee. So it was my thought process that Black people didn’t drink coffee.”
Schultz, Starbuck’s CEO, floated the idea of opening franchises in pre- dominantly Black commu- nities with O’Neal’s help. But the NBA star — who grew up drinking sweet tea and hot chocolate — had no experience with coffee.
“I’m always a guy that, if I don’t believe in it, I can’t do it,” O’Neal said. "No
amount of money can make me en- dorse some- thing that I’m not 100% be- hind.”
So O’Neal
politely de-
clined the SHAQUILLE
Howard Schultz’s face and said, ‘Black people don’t drink coffee, sir. I don’t think it's gonna work.’ And you should have seen the look on his face,” he said. Now, O’Neal regrets the missed chance, which likely cost him millions.“That was one of my worst business deci- sions," he said laughing. "Now, every time, on every corner in every city, every country you see a Starbucks, I’m like, ‘Awww’.”
