Karl-Anthony Towns averaged 18.1 points, 10.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks after being selected with the No. 1 pick.
Minnesota Timberwolves star center Karl-Anthony Towns has been voted the NBA's Rookie of the Year, ac- cording to a person with direct knowledge of the award.
The person spoke on condi- tion of anonymity because the announcement has not yet been made. The NBA is sched- uled to announce the winner Monday.
The No. 1 overall pick from
Kentucky posted the best rookie season by a big man since Tim Duncan. He aver- aged 18.1 points, 10.7 re- bounds and 1.7 blocks and helped the Timberwolves win 13 more games than they did the previous season. Towns played all 82 games and was named Western Conference rookie of the month in all six months the award was handed out.
LEBRON JAMES
winning his second straight MVP, he would have hit the usual platitudes. "Amazing player, incredible season, love watching him play, good for the game, blah blah blah." By adding the bit about what valuable really means, King James showed he is not ready to relinquish his throne, and he wants another shot at the Warriors.
Don't be surprised if Le- Bron comes out with a little extra fire Tuesday night when the Cavs square off with the Raptors in Game 1.

James-Miami Heat Showdown
Now there really is no rea- son to watch the Eastern Con- ference Finals — unless you really want to watch Cleve- land-Toronto, an unappealing blood-letting if there ever was one.
The rest of us, mean- ing everyonesouthofCanada, wanted to see Cleveland- Miami, meaning LeBron James vs. Pat Riley, er Dwyane Wade. And even if it resulted in another blood- letting, as it probably would have, with the Heat down its two top big men and forced to use a 6-7 rookie at center, at least it would have had a lot of sizzle.
And it would have had the one other thing you’re not

The Toronto Raptors will face a Cavs team in the Eastern Conference finals that has been firing on all cylinders through a perfect 8-0 stretch this postseason. Now they might have to deal with an angry LeBron James, too.
After Toronto's Game 7 vic- tory over the Heat on Sunday afternoon, Raptors guard Kyle Lowry may have thrown a subtle shot toward James in his postgame inter- view with ESPN's Doris Burke.
"LeBron’s probably one of the best players in the league, besides Steph (Curry)," Lowry said. "Kyrie (Irv- ing)’s a tough matchup, and Kevin Love’s always a tough matchup. But we’re going to go in there and play our game and try to go out there and do our job and see what happens."
There's a very good chance Lowry didn't mean anything negative toward James when he said "besides Steph." But given LeBron's comments about"MVP" not necessarily meaning "best in the league," James may not take it that way.

Toronto Raptors' Greatest Win
The Vertical first reported Saturday that the two sides were finalizing a deal.
The Pacers chose not to renew Frank Vogel's contract last week after the team's Game 7 loss to the Toronto Raptors in the first round of the playoffs.
McMillan also interviewed for the head-coaching job with the Sacramento Kings, who hired Dave Joerger earlier in the week.
The 51-year-old McMillan has been an assistant coach with Indiana since 2013. He previously was head coach of the Portland Trail Blazers from 2005 to 2012 and the Seattle SuperSonics from 2000 to 2005.
His ties to Pacers general manager Kevin Pritchard ex- tend to their days in Portland, where Pritchard was GM from 2007 to 2010.
Not long into his commence- ment address at the University of Wisconsin, Seattle Sea- hawks quarterback Russell Wilson poked fun at himself for the biggest interception in Super Bowl history.
"Of course, I'm also here to share some things I've learned," Wilson said. "Things like, if you're dating a woman that's way out of your league, ask her to marry you. If you can throw a football 80 yards, for some reason, people think that's pretty cool. And if
you're playing the New Eng- land Patriots in the Super Bowl, and you've got 26 sec- onds left and you're down by four, and it's second and goal on their 1-yard line, try not to throw an interception. That's purely, purely hypothetical though, of course."
Th theme of Wilson's speech focused on what to do when life tells you no. He stressed to the graduates to know what they're capable of, always be prepared and keep things in perspective.
