BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
A well-known retired Tampa businessman died on Monday of a heart attack. Mr. Solomon Jordan was 77- years-old.
A native of Calhoun County, Georgia, Mr. Jor- dan moved to Tampa with his family in 1952. The son of the late John and Daisy Jor- dan, he graduated from Mid- dleton High School. While in high school, he played base- ball under the guidance of the late Coach Abraham Brown.
After graduation, Mr. Jordan entered the work- force and became an entre- preneur. The first business was the Central Quick Lunch located in the business district on Historic Central Avenue. Known as “The Greek Stand,” the business was owned and operated by Mr. Jordan, his brother, Johnny, and their sister, Lovie.

After Central Avenue closed, the brothers set about becoming the owners of sev- eral businesses that included J & S Market, 1613 E. 24th Av- enue, J & S Restaurant, at the corner of N. 22nd Street and E. 18th Avenue; and S & J Gro- cery Store, corner of 29th Street & 24th Avenue.
After retiring from those business ventures, Mr. Jor-
dan became the manager of the Zanzi Bar in West Tampa. He was also part owner of the Duece Nightclub, in partner- ship with his nephew, Bernard Jordan, his son, Deacon Ronald Brown said.
Mr. Jordan was a mem- ber of Northside Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership of his brother, the late Rev. Jacob Jordan. He sang in the choir at church and was also a member of a local gospel quartet.
Deacon Brown further said his father enjoyed play- ing pool and dealing with peo- ple. “He was a people person and he just loved people.”
In addition to his son, Mr. Jordan is survived by several other children, 2 sisters, 1 brother, other family mem- bers and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Jordan will be held on Sat- urday, June 10th. Wilson’s Fu- neral Home is in charge of handling arrangements.
