Will Smith Goes From Fear To Joy As 'Aladdin's' New Genie; Opens Friday
Will Smith And Queen Latifah To Produce Romeo
And Juliet Hip-Hop Musical
LOS ANGELES - Will Smith was initially worried about playing the genie in Dis- ney’s live action version of “Al- addin” after the celebrated performance by the late Robin Williams more than 25 years ago, but says it even- tually became a joy.
“What Robin Williams did with this character - he just didn’t leave a lot of room to add to the genie. So I started off fearful, but then when I got with the music, it just started waking up that fun, childlike, silly part of me,” Smith said.
“This was the most joyful ex- perience of my career,” the actor, 50, said ahead of the film’s release worldwide this week.

first time doing a Walt Disney Co. film. The remake features many of the elements of the 1992 animated original, for which Williams won a Golden Globe for his voice work.
“I like the original movie so I’m aware I don’t want to con- taminate the nostalgia of the
first one,” said Ritchie. “What you want to do is embellish.”
“My principal job was to en- tertain my five kids and my ; a wife,” said Ritchie, who is bet- ter known for action adventure movies like “Sherlock Holmes” and adult crime caper “Rockn- Rolla.”
Naomi Scott who ap- peared in “The 33” and “Power Rangers” plays Princess Jas- mine. Mena Massoud, who appeared in last year’s “Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan” series, plays the title role in the movie.
“Aladdin” is the latest Dis- ney remake of its animated family film classics. It follows a live action version of flying ele- phant tale “Dumbo” in March, the upcoming July reboot of “The Lion King,” and “Mulan” due for release in 2020.

Will Smith and Queen Lat- ifah are joining forces to pro- duce a Romeo and Juliet hip-hop musical for Netflix. Latifah will produce with Shakim Compere under their Flavor Unit Entertainment ban- ner while Smith will serve as an
executive producer via his Over- brook Entertainment with James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett.

(Power, Snowfall, The Get Down) will direct the upcoming project. Naim co-wrote the script with Dave Broome (The Biggest Loser). Additionally, Broome and Yong Yam will produce for 25/7 Productions.

Kenya Moore‘s pay rate was just below NeNe and Kandi’s at the time of her de- parture, however sources tell us that Bravo wants to give her a substantial pay cut to return. They’re still ‘far off’ from com- ing to a deal.

As we previously reported, luxury brand group LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton has announced the launch of Fenty Maison, a new fashion house from singer and make- up mogul Rihanna.
The 31-year-old singer has made history for being the first woman to create an orig-
inal brand at the famed lux- ury group. Fenty Maison is set to be a Paris-based collec- tion of ready-to-wear, shoes and accessories, and is ex- pected to debut in the spring of 2019, PEOPLE reports.
“Everybody knows Ri- hanna as a wonderful singer, but through our partnership at Fenty Beauty, I discovered a true entrepreneur, a real C.E.O. and a terrific leader,” LVMH’s chairman Bernard Arnault said in the state- ment. “She naturally finds her full place within LVMH. To support Rihanna to start up the Fenty Maison, we have built a talented and multicul- tural team supported by the Group resources. I am proud that LVMH is leading this venture and wish it will be a great success.”
Meanwhile, according to WWD sources, the Fenty Maison launch might coin- cide with the release of Ri- hanna’s ninth studio album.
