Pelosi Accuses Trump Of Being 'Engaged In A Cover-Up'
Federal Judge Orders Trump Accountants To Hand Over
Financial Records To Congress
A federal judge on Mon- day ordered Donald Trump’s accounting firm, Mazars USA LLP, to hand over eight years of the presi- dent’s financial records be- fore he took office to the House Oversight and Reform Committee.
The ruling, delivered by U. S. District Judge Amit Mehta, comes after Trump’s attorneys filed a lawsuit in April seeking to stop Mazars from complying with a congressional sub- poena demanding those records.
“Courts have grappled for more than a century with the question of the scope of Con- gress’s investigative power,” Mehta wrote in the decision. “The binding principle that emerges from these judicial decisions is that courts must presume Congress is acting in furtherance of its constitu- tional responsibility to legis- late and must defer to congressional judgments about what Congress needs to

carry out that purpose.” While the judge said that there are “limits on Con- gress’s investigative author- ity,” he noted that “those limits do not substantially constrain Congress” as long as they investigate “on a sub- ject matter on which ‘legisla-
tion could be had.’” “Applying those principles
here compels the conclusion that President Trump can- not block the subpoena to Mazars,” Mehta concluded.
Following the ruling, a
spokesperson for Mazars USA LLP told Newsweek the company “will respect the legal process and fully com- ply with its legal obligations.”
“We believe strongly in the ethical and professional rules and regulations that govern our industry, our work and our client interac- tions,” the spokesperson added. “As a matter of firm policy and professional rules we do not comment on the work we conduct for our clients.”
The Speaker touted the success of one of those efforts on Wednesday, as she noted that the House Intelligence Committee - after using its subpoena power - pressured the Justice Department into providing the panel with more counter intelligence in- formation which was gener-
ated by the investigation."The

about the documents that the Justice Department is now willing to convey," Pelosi said, using that as one exam- ple of how Democrats are slowly getting information from the Trump Administra- tion - without the need to take a step towards impeach- ment hearings."We have to be patient as we plow along," said Rep. Hank Johnson (D-GA), a member of the House Judiciary Committee, who said now is not the time to start an impeachment ef- fort by that panel.Facing pressure within Democratic Party ranks to open an offi- cial impeachment inquiry against President Donald Trump, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednes- day vowed to 'follow the facts' of any investigations related to the President and his ad- ministration, bluntly accus- ing Mr. Trump of doing all

he can to block oversight re- lated to the investigation of Russian interference in the 2016 elections.
"We believe it’s important to follow the facts. We believe that no one is above the law including the President of the United States," Pelosi said after a closed door meeting of House Democrats."And we believe the President of the United States is engaged in a cover-up, in a cover-up," Pelosi told reporters. Pelosi's advice to her House Democratic Caucus has been to hold off on starting any of- ficial impeachment effort, and instead focus on holding hearings, getting documents, sending out subpoenas, tak- ing their document fights to the courts, and increasing the pressure on the President with those actions.
Joe Biden Says Congress Should Protect Abortion Rights
Former Vice President Joe Biden on Tuesday threw his support behind Congress mov- ing to protect abortion rights across America by “codifying Roe v. Wade through legisla- tion” after a few other Demo- cratic 2020 candidates vowed to execute the action if elected.
"Vice President Biden firmly believes that Roe v. Wade is the law of the land and should not be overturned," a campaign spokesperson said in a statement, according to The Hill. "Georgia, Alabama and Missouri are passing extreme laws in order to prevent a woman from being able to have an abortion under virtually any circumstance.
“Roe v. Wade lays out a con- stitutional guarantee that a woman can, in fact, make a choice between she and her doctor. Biden believes that codifying Roe through legisla- tion must be pursued."
In a video uploaded to Twit- ter on Tuesday, Biden criti- cized the GOP-led states of Georgia, Alabama and Mis-

souri for passing “extreme, ex- treme laws in order to prevent a woman on virtually any cir- cumstance to be able to have an abortion.”
“States across the nation are passing extreme laws that vio- late a woman’s constitutional right to choose. These bills are a blatant attempt to overturn Roe v. Wade. It's wrong. It's pernicious,” the former vice president tweeted, alongside the 70-second-long clip. “We must #StopTheBans and en- sure this choice remains be- tween a woman and her doctor.”
