Meek Mill Attends Rally Before Facing His Controversial Judge
"Stand with Meek Mill" rally in Philadelphia on June 18, 2018.
Rapper Meek Mill spent Father's Day this year out of prison and with his young son — something that seemed impossible before the Pennsylvania Supreme Court unexpectedly ordered him free on bail almost two months ago.
The hip-hop chart-topper then walked into the court building to face Common Pleas Court Judge Genece Brinkley.
Following the contentious hearing, Meek Mill spoke
with CBS3 in Philadelphia while leaving the courthouse. "I feel like what went on in the courtroom today is dis- graceful," the 31-year-old said in the interview.
No decision has been made on Meek's push for a new trial, and Judge Brinkley said she'll rule on whether Mill should have a new trial "in due time."
Mill's attorneys have asked for a new trial based on credibility issues with an ar- resting officer who testified in
2008. At least three convic- tions of other defendants based on that officer's testi- mony have been thrown out this year.
The Philadelphia district attorney's office has not op- posed Mill's request for a new trial. Prosecutors have even said the initial charge should be vacated after the arresting officer landed on a list of law enforcement offi- cials suspected of lying in court and framing witnesses over the years.
