Nets Part Ways With Coach Lionel Hollins, Reassign GM Billy King
LIONEL HOLLINS And BILLY KING
NEW YORK -- Billy King's bold moves often seemed made with little regard for the future. Now Brooklyn's future isn't King's concern.
The Nets reassigned their gen- eral manager and fired coach Li- onel Hollins on Sunday in the midst of their worst season since moving from New Jersey.
The Nets said assistant Tony Brown will serve as the interim head coach and the GM position will remain open until a replace- ment is hired.
"It's clear from our current state of affairs that we need new leadership," owner Mikhail Prokhorov said in a statement. "With the right basketball man- agement and coach in place, we are going to create a winning cul- ture and identity and give Brook- lyn a team that it can be proud of and enjoy watching."
Nets assistant coach Paul Westphal, who is close with Hollins, also announced on Facebook that he would not be with the team anymore.
Hollins said he received a call from King informing him of the news.
"I'm disappointed to where it didn't work out to where we did- n't have playoff success and fans weren't celebrating in the streets of Brooklyn."
A Total Disgrace Again, Barry Bonds Not Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame
BARRY BONDS
The greatest hitter of his gen- eration or of all-time was once again shut out of Cooperstown, thanks to the petty, sanctimo- nious, grudge-holding members of the Baseball Writers’ Associa- tion of America. Four years of being denied by baseball.
Barry Bonds, who holds all the major records in major league baseball, and who records sits in Cooperstown, couldn't get enough votes to be inducted. Acquitted of all charges last year, you would think the writers would vote Bonds in.
But not so, another year of total disgrace in baseball. Racism lives at the highest level.

Seattle Seahawks players and coaches constantly harp on only worrying about things they can control.
But they escaped Minnesota with a 10-9 victory in large part because of something they had no control over: a missed 27- yard field goal by Vikings kicker Blair Walsh.
The Seahawks' defense took the field with 1:42 left and the team holding a 10-9 lead. But the Vikings drew a 19-yard pass interference penalty on Kam Chancellor. Tight end Kyle Rudolph then beat Chancel- lor for a 24-yard gain, and sud- denly, the Vikings were in field goal range.
Everything was set up for Minnesota to pull off the upset, but Walsh's kick wasn't even close, hooking left of the up- right. Instead of the Vikings ex- ploding in celebration, it was

the Seahawks. Cornerback Richard Sherman dropped to his knees in disbelief.
Russell Wilson and the Sea- hawks found a way to get past the Vikings and advance to face the Panthers.
Now Seattle is headed to Car- olina to take on the 15-1 Pan- thers in the divisional round.
Chiefs WR Jeremy Maclin Day To Day With Sprained Ankle
The Kansas City Chiefs an- nounced Sunday that an MRI revealed wide receiver Jeremy Maclin suffered a sprained right ankle in Saturday's wild- card win against the Houston Texans. He is day to day.
A source stated that Maclin has a high ankle sprain.
The Chiefs, who extended their NFL-best winning streak to 11 games, will face New Eng- land on Saturday.
Maclin suffered the injury during the third quarter and left on a cart in tears. The Chiefs initially feared that Maclin had hurt his knee liga- ment, which he has had surgi-

cally repaired twice. That it was an ankle injury provides some hope he'll play again in the playoffs.
Mariners Welcome Back Ken Griffey Jr., Will Retire No. 24
SEATTLE -- Ken Griffey Jr. paused, and for a moment the joking stopped. Junior be- came thoughtful and reflective about the idea of his No. 24 hanging next to Jackie Robin- son's No. 42 as the only num- bers retired at Safeco Field.
"Having my number next to him, I don't think I did half of what he did," Griffey said. "Baseball-wise, yeah, you're going to look at numbers and things like that, but the way he went about his life and the things he did off the field, no- body can compare to that. He is a trailblazer in more ways than one."
Griffey's whirlwind follow- ing his election to the Hall of Fame earlier this week came to

an appropriate end on Friday night, when he walked along a red carpet inside Safeco Field with staff of the Seattle Mariners lining both sides and applauding the newest member in Cooperstown.
Beloved former Bears star and Super Bowl champion William "The Refrigera- tor" Perry is hospitalized in Chicago, TV station Fox 32 Chicago reported last Tuesday night.
In town to attend Sunday's season finale against the Lions, Perry, 53, went to Northwestern Memorial Hos- pital on Friday to get medica- tion for his diabetes and other ailments, his brother Willie said. While there, doctors found an infection in one of Perry's legs so severe that it had to be treated intra- venously.
Perry, who hadn't been to Soldier Field in years, was al- lowed to attend the game in a wheelchair and received a
