Dr. Fred Beaton, Sr.,
Middleton graduate, Class of 1970, Martin Luther King, W. E. B. DuBois Scholar, re- ceived his sixth Honorary Doctorate Degree (University of South Carolina, 2018).
Dr. Beaton was awarded the Martin Luther King Life- time Achievement Award (36 books, short stories, and plays covering 40 years) for Excel- lence in Creative Writing. This award was certified at the National Association of Minority Writers Convention, Washington, D. C., 2018.
