Jury Awards $15 Million To Joseph Family In Wrongful Death Case
Last Thursday, a jury ruled in favor of a Tampa family who filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Hillsborough County Sher- iff’s Office and the Florida State Fairgrounds. They awarded the family a $15 million settlement as com- pensation for the wrongful death of their son, Andrew Joseph, III.
On February 7, 2014, 14- year-old Andrew Joseph, III, was killed attempting to cross Interstate 4. The teenager, along with 98 other students had been ejected from the Florida State Fair- grounds, and photographed, but were not charged with a crime.
The tragedy led his par- ents, Andrew and Deanna Joseph, Jr., to file a wrong- ful death lawsuit stating that
fice should pay the settle- ment to the family, but ruled against monetary settlement against Cpl. Mark Clark, who ejected the teenager from the fairgrounds. The ju- rists found the Sheriff’s Of- fice 90% negligent in the death. They also said the child was 10% responsible for his own death.
The defense has not said if they will appeal the ruling.
