Happy Anniversary
Attorney Honored As Nominee To Have New School Bear His Name
Letters from the community have been re- ceived by the Hillsborough County School Board that placed in nomination the name of Attorney Warren Hope Dawson as the name for the new Elementary School āCā in Riverview. The let- ters asked that the Board honor Mr. Dawson for the legal services he provided over any years in the effort to desegregate the public schools of Hillsborough County.
It was Dawson, the veteran civil rights lawyer, who labored in the federal courts for 27 years in the effort to eliminate separate and un- equal schools for our children. Beginning in 1975, he was the lawyer primarily responsible for the day-to-day, month-to-month and school year-to- school year legal work that sought to dismantle the dual (Black/White) school system that had existed for as long as public school had existed in this county.
It is a fact of our history that only a handful of lawyers throughout America were willing to ac- cept the challenge to use their legal talents to eliminate racial segregation in the public schools of our Nation because they were often uncom- pensated or greatly undercompensated for their legal services. Those few lawyers were like sol- diers in the front-line of the fierce battle for jus- tice and equality.
School districts around the nation, including some Districts in the South, have named schools in honor of lawyers who caused them to desegre- gate. Indeed, right next door, the Pinellas County

School District, just across the bridge from Tampa, has already named two of its schools in honor of lawyers who caused it to desegregate. They are: The James B. Sanderlin Middle School at 2350 22nd Avenue, South, St. Peters- burg, and The Thurgood Marshall Funda- mental Middle School at 3901 22nd Avenue, South. Both Sanderlin and Marshall were Black civil right lawyers.
Support letters directly to members of the School Board can be sent prior to Tuesday, Octo- ber 18th, when the Board will make its decision.

Growing In Faith
Lord, You have said in Your Word that You have dealt to each one a measure of faith (Romans 12:3). I pray that You would take the faith You have planted in (name of child) and multiply it. May the truth of Your Word be firmly established in his (her) heart so that faith will grow daily and navigate his (her) life Help him (her) to trust You at all times as he (she) looks to You for truth, guidance, and transformation into Your likeness. May his (her) faith be the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1). I pray he (she) will have faith strong enough to lift him (her) above his (her) circumstances and limitations and instill in him (her) the confidence of knowing that everything will work together for good.
Whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them and you will have them. MARK 11:24
