Jay-Z Launches Bitcoin Academy At Housing Complex Where He Grew Up
Lena Horne Will Be The First Black Woman To Have A Theater Named After Her
The summer program, funded in partnership with Jack Dorsey, is open to resi- dents of the Marcy Projects, and aims to 'provide educa- tion, and empower the com- munity with knowledge.'
On Jay-Z’s album 4:44, re- leased in 2017 to his music- streaming service Tidal, the song "Marcy Me" describes his journey from a kid living in the Brooklyn, New York, housing complex of the same name to award-winning musician.
The rapper-producer an- nounced a new program in- tended to give back to current residents of the Marcy Proj- ects. It’s called the Bitcoin
financial literacy program with Jack Dorsey, the ex-Twitter CEO and current CEO of Square whose Twitter bio sim- ply reads, “#bitcoin."
While they may seem like an unlikely pair, Jay-Z and Dorsey came together in 2021 when Square bought a majo- rity stake in Tidal. Now, with Bitcoin Academy, the duo seek to prove out cryptocurrency’s promise of providing a decen- tralized, barrier-free financial future for all. This idea is par- ticularly attractive to those who feel frozen out of the cur- rent financial system, and see cryptocurrency as a potential tool for social justice.
Another first is happening on Broadway this year—The Brooks Atkinson Theatre will be renamed the Lena Horne Theatre this fall in honor of the legendary singer, dancer, actor and civil rights activist—and it'll be the first time a Black woman will have a Broadway theater named in her honor.
The theater's owner The Ned- erlander Organization, an- nounced the renaming saying that Horne made a huge im- pact on Broadway and on the world, according to a release on BroadwayDirect.com.

“It is from this virus that at- tacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paraly- sis,” he said in the video. “As you can see this eye is not blinking.
