B-CU Defeats Delaware State, 49-21 In MEAC Road Game
B-CU won its first true road game on Saturday, October 31st, when they traveled to Dover Delaware to take on the Hornets of Delaware State University.
On Senior Night, North Carolina A&T Defeats FAMU, 28-10 In Bragg Stadium
DOVER, Del. – Larry Brihm rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Bethune-Cookman rolled up 353 yards on the ground to de- feat Delaware State 49-21 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Confer- ence (MEAC) game Saturday at Alumni Field.
After the Hornets (0-8, 0-5 MEAC) opened the scoring when Logan Westcott re- turned a field goal blocked by Gabriel Sherrod 82 yards midway through the first quar- ter, the Wildcats (7-2, 5-1 MEAC) scored on five consec- utive offensive possessions to take control.
Brihm had 19 carries and touchdown runs of 1 and 4 yards, and Michael D. Jones had 98 yards on 12 carries and a 2-yard touchdown for the
Wildcats.
Quentin Williams hit 7 of
9 passes for 103 yards with touchdowns of 7 yards to Frank Brown and 34 yards to Ja-Quan Lumas that made it 35-7 early in the third quarter.
Delaware State closed to 35- 21 on Brycen Allenye’s 14- yard pass from Gilbert Rivera at the start of the fourth quarter, but B-CU an- swered with Brihm’s 4- yarder with 6:54 to play.
Carey White tacked on a 15-yard run with 17 seconds left. Anthony Jordan (61 yards rushing, four catches for 23 yards) also scored for the Wildcats, who host Morgan State next Saturday at Munic- ipal Stadium.
North Carolina A&T scored on its first two possessions and never looked back, drop- ping the Rattlers 28-10 on Senior Night in front of 10,279 fans in Bragg Memorial Sta- dium.
FAMU took the field with- out senior running back De- vondrick Nealy, who came to FAMU’s weekly football press conference wearing a boot on his right foot. At the time, Nealy said the boot was a precaution and he planned to play against the Aggies (7-1, 5-0, MEAC).
FAMU took advantage of its first red zone opportunity of the game. Carson Royal hit tight end Desmond Noird with a two-yard pass for a touchdown to give the Rattlers their first points of the game.
The Rattlers offense did
manage to take advantage of a special team’s break late in the third quarter. Carson Royall managed to hit Desmond Noird for a touchdown pass, but only after a blocked punt gave the Rattlers the ball on the Aggies’ five-yard line. Colby Blanton added a field goal in the fourth for FAMU's final score.
FAMU's scoring opportunity
was set up by a blocked punt, which gave the Rattlers the ball on North Carolina A&T's five-yard line. The Rattlers are still struggling to sustain drives, though the defense gave up just one score in the quarter.
Next week, the Rattlers (1-7, 1-4) travel to Virginia to play Hampton.
