Investigators Convinced California Shooters Planned Multiple Attacks
Tashfeen Malik and her husband, Syed Farook fatally shot 14 people at Farook’s com- pany gathering.
SAN BERNADINO, CA - U. S. investigators are in- creasingly convinced the Cal- ifornia shooters planned multiple attacks, given their stockpile of weapons, and are looking at whether the Pak- istani woman involved radi- calized her American husband, officials said on Sunday.
Investigators believe the weapons cache collected by Tashfeen Malik, 29, and her husband, Syed Rizwan- Farook, 28, points to more attacks, but they do not have evidence on other possible targets, a senior U. S. govern- ment source said.
The couple stormed a gathering of his work col- leagues in San Bernardino, California, on Wednesday, opening fire with assault- style rifles and killing 14 peo- ple. The pair was killed a few hours later in a shootout with police.
U. S. authorities were try- ing to learn what contacts Malik might have had with Islamic militants in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, where she grew up.
They lack clear evidence that the wife was radicalized overseas or that she in turn radicalized her husband, though they are actively in- vestigating that, the official said.
Authorities are investigat- ing the shootings as an act of terrorism.
ISIS on Saturday hailed the two people who massa- cred14 people in Southern California last week as "sup- porters" of the terror group.
The terror group's official Iraq-based station made the declaration following last Wednesday's San Bernardino shooting that also left 21 in- jured, but -- notable for a group quick to claim attacks -- did not say the couple was members or that ISIS was re- sponsible.
Justice Department To Investigate Chicago Police; More Protests After Dept. Still Trying To Cover Up Facts
Protests in Chicago continue after the release of a year old video showing Chicago police officer Jason Van Dyke shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald 16 times, and again Sunday after it was learned that the Chicago Police Department was still trying to cover up evidence of shooting.
NEW YORK, NY — You just can’t trust anyone!” seems to be a constant re- frain in the modern world. Indeed, learning to trust is one of life’s most difficult lessons. “That’s because trust is not a verb,” says leg- endary life coach Iyanla- Vanzant, “it’s a noun. Trust is a state of mind and a state of being.”
Vanzant, New York Times best-selling author and host of OWN’s popular reality TV show Iyanla: Fix My Life, releases her latest empowerment book entitled TRUST: Mastering the 4 Es- sential Trusts on December 8th. The book explains how to cultivate the liberating
power of trust itself – by ex- ploring what trust really is, how to trust, and why to trust. She outlines the spe- cial rewards which come after mastering the four es- sential trusts: trust in God, trust in yourself, trust in oth- ers, and trust in life.
“When we learn to trust others, it supports and eases the difficulty of life’s most challenging experiences. Trusting others gives you something to hold on to when it feels as if change is sucking the life out of you,” Vanzantsays.TRUST: Mastering the 4 Essential Trusts, for more information please visit www.iyanla- trustlife.com.
CHICAGO, IL --- The U. S. Justice Department will open an investigation into the Chicago Police Department after protests over how it handled the case of a Black teenager shot by a white po- lice officer, a person familiar with the matter said on Sun- day.
The "patterns and prac- tices" investigation will de- termine whether the department systematically violates constitutional rights. The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, would not elaborate on the investigation.
The civil probe follows murder charges filed against the police officer in the Octo- ber 2014 killing. The shoot- ing was caught on videotape, which was not released until the charges were filed last month.
Officer Jason Van Dyke was charged with first-degree murder in the death of 17- year-old Laquan McDon- ald, who was shot 16 times. Shortly after that, the city re- leased a patrol car video of the shooting. Van Dyke fired all the shots.
Protests erupted afterward in the third most populous U. S. city, culminating in the fir- ing on Tuesday of Police Su- perintendent Garry McCarthy by Mayor Rahm Emanuel. Critics of the mayor and local prosecu- tor have complained it took too long for the McDonald tape to be released and for charges to be filed.
“We welcome the engage- ment of the Department of Justice as we work to restore trust in our police depart-
ment and improve our sys- tem of police accountability,” said Adam Collins, spokesman for Emanuel.
Emanuel's office also an- nounced on Sunday the res- ignation of Scott Ando, the chief administrator of the In- dependent Police Review Au- thority, a civilian body that investigates police miscon- duct
The investigation of the Chicago Police Department was requested by the Illinois attorney general.
Rev. Jesse Jackson Led Protest Sunday
Rev. Jesse Jackson led a protest march Sunday af- ternoon in Chicago over the latest evidence of an official cover-up in the fatal police shooting of Laquan Mc- Donald.
The Chicago Police De- partment released docu- ments Friday night from its investigation into the teenager’s death. Police offi- cers at the scene supported Chicago Police Officer Van Dyke’s claim that McDonald, 17, was moving toward them in an aggressive manner with a knife. They claimed that Van Dyke, fearing for his life, fired his weapon at McDonald.
That version, however, is at odds with the police dash- cam video, which shows McDonald walking away from the officers when Van Dyke shot him 16 times, from about 10 feet away. Senior officials who read the statements and saw the video apparently turned a blind eye to the discrepancies.
