LARRY BROWN
... On trial for murder
On Monday, closing argu- ments began in the first-de- gree murder trial of a Tampa teenager. He is accused of fa- tally shooting a security guard three years ago.
A spokesperson for the Hillsborough County State Attorney’s Office said the case could be given to the jury as early as Monday af- ternoon.
Jurors will decide if they were convinced by State Prosecutors that Larry Donell Brown shot and killed Michael Valentin. The shooting took place in an East Tampa apartment com- plex.
Prosecutors contend that Brown, then 16, shot the se- curity guard with a gun he had taken from his mother’s home without her knowledge or permission. Prosecutors said that when Valentin, 38, was discovered by police, his service weapon was still in its holster. He had report- edly been shot in the back of

the head.
Brown was arrested on
December 14, 2012, after being indicted by the Grand Jury. He was also charged with 3 counts of robbery, grand theft of a firearm, and 3 counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm. He is being tried as an adult.
The murder took place at the Grande Oaks Apart- ments, 2402 E. Hanna Avenue, in East Tampa, on November 21st. Valentin was working an extra shift at the complex when the shoot- ing took place.
Police said Brown was tied to the murder because of his DNA left on a bicycle lo- cated at the scene.
Brown has been held without bond at the Hillsbor- ough County Jail since his arrest.
Officials said the case was not tried as a death penalty case because Brown was 16- years-old at the time of the murder.
