Judge Announces He’ll Block Gov. DeSantis’ Redistricting Plan
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — A congressional map ap- proved by Florida Republi- can Gov. Ron DeSantis and drawn by his staff is un- constitutional because it breaks up a district where Black voters can choose their representatives, a judge said Wednesday.
GOV. RON DESANTIS
Leon County Circuit Judge Layne Smith said he would issue a formal order Thursday or Friday to keep the maps from taking effect in November’s elec- tion. He made it clear he would rule in favor of voting rights groups challenging the maps.
Roe vs. Wade: The Morning After
We won’t argue the “right” or “wrong,” or “good” or “bad” of the potential for the Supreme Court to overturn the Roe v. Wade decision, nearly 50 years after its pas- sage. Consequently, we will only say that the potential ruling will provide a case for the wide distribution, ac- cess, and use of the “morning after” pill, called “emer- gency contraception.” However, this doesn’t mean that male dominated state lawmakers won’t try to outlaw this morning after pill as well.
The potential ruling also makes a case for the over- whelming turnout of women voters to elect lawmakers who will give women “the power of attorney” over their bodies. After all, there are more female voters than male voters. So, women need to vote against lawmakers who insist on controlling other people’s choices for their per- sonal health.
Thirdly, the potential ruling mandates that women re- think their choices to have consensual unprotected sex. (No victims of rape and incest, and women pregnant with severely deformed fetuses should not be forced to carry pregnancies to full term.) In today’s world there are few women who don’t know what the consequences are of un- protected sex or heavy petting.
Thus, we encourage sexually active men and women to consider buying a supply of “morning after” pills and keep them readily available in their pockets/purses. Cur- rently, the pills may be purchased over the counter with- out a prescription in most Planned Parenthood Health Care Centers, Women’s Health Centers, drugstores, su- permarkets, and pharmacies for a cost range of $10-$50. The pills work best when taken up to 5 days after unpro- tected sex.
As we stated before, any state or federal government that forces a woman to carry a baby full term, should be required to pay child support for the child until age 18. Consequently, the total amount of childcare is now $272,049 or $15,113 per year.
It is not up to us to tell the public what to do or what to think. However, it is indeed up to us to warn the public that not to vote, is to run the risk of losing our democracy. This is a plea to all voters to not allow misguided conser- vatives to take us back to dark rooms and coat hangers for abortions. These are the times that try women’s souls.
