Founders Day Gala To Benefit STEM And STEAM Programs

On Saturday, September 17th several members of the community will gather at the Founders Day Gala of Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Inc. The event will take place at the Embassy Suites, 10220 Palm River Road, beginning at 7 p. m. The purpose of the gala is to benefit the STEM and STEAM Programs in the Hillsborough County School District.
The guest speaker of the gala is Dr. Angela Adams, who currently works part- time in a community phar-
macy, she volunteers as Clin- ical Professor-University of Florida, College of Phar- macy, Department of Phar- macotherapy & Translational Research, serves as the Director, Com- munity Engagement, Florida Health Equity Research In- stitute and is the Executive Director of the Central Florida Pharmacy Council.
Despite her busy sched- ule, Dr. Adams still finds time to keep healthy out- comes for the people in her community a top priority. To achieve her goals for her pa- tients, she recently com- peted for, and was awarded,

a research grant by the American Cancer Society. With this well-deserved grant, she will serve as the principal investigator for the
design of an artificial intelli- gent digital assistant to im- prove shared decision making for African Ameri- can men diagnosed with prostate cancer.
Dr. Adams has pro- vided outpatient and com- munity pharmacy services to patients as well as serving in the roles in several other po- sitions at Universities and Colleges.
She was honored for her efforts to reduce health care disparities with awards of recognition for her excep- tional achievements that ad- vance wellness, health empowerment and promo- tion. She is the recipient of the Bowl of Hygiea, an
award presented to pharma- cists for outstanding com- munity service above and beyond professional duties.
In addition, Dr. Adams served as a Pharmacist in the United States Navy Reserve for 32 years, obtaining the rank of Commander. During her tour of duty, she was awarded the Navy Commen- dation Medal, Joint Service Achievement and Navy Achievement Medals, and selected as the Navy Reserve Pharmacist of the Year for her dedication to duty and professionalism. A 32-year retiree, her desire to serve our country is continuously demonstrated in her current position.
