Black Lives Matter Protesters Shut Down Presidential Hopeful’s Speech
GA Governor Removes

Black Lives Matter Protesters would not let Bernie Sanders speak.
In a move filled with more symbolism than actual sub- stance, Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal has announced that Con- federate Memorial Day and Gen. Robert E. Lee's birth- day have been erased from the state's official 2016 holiday cal- endar, according to AJC.com
Both days were replaced with the more neutral term “state holiday,” according to emails to state employees last week, writes the news outlet.
But in a measure of how po- larizing the debate over confed- erate commemorations have become, a spokesman made clear that Georgians were free to pay tribute to soldiers who fought on behalf of the confed- eracy on the more neutrally la- beled state holidays.
On the 2015 state calendar, April 27 is listed as a Confeder- ate holiday and Nov. 27 as Lee’s birthday, the report says.
Texas College Football Player Shot By Police Was Unarmed
Christian Taylor ... Shot By Officer Brad Miller
ARLINGTON, Texas — Police say the suburban Dallas officer who shot and killed a college football player during a burglary call at a car dealership had never fired his weapon before.
Arlington police officer Brad Miller remains on administra- tive leave after the early Friday shooting.
Police Sgt. Paul Rodriguez said Saturday that Miller and his training officer were the only two officers known to have di- rectly engaged Christian Tay- lor. The 19-year-old Arlington native who was a sophomore at Angelo State University in West Texas. Other officers had set up a perimeter around the car deal- ership where the incident oc- curred.
Police say they were respond- ing to a report of a burglary at the Classic Buick GMC in Ar- lington, 10 miles west of Dallas. The FBI will participate in the investigation.

Elijah reportedly had opened the door to the parked car when he was fatally shot.
Things continue to get inter- esting on the Black Lives Mat- ter front.
Saturday afternoon in Seat- tle, Democratic presidential hopeful Bernie Sanders found himself in what’s being de- scribed as a “chaotic con- frontation” with a pair of Black Lives Matter protesters, who bum rushed the stage and wouldn’t let him speak.
Sanders, an independent Senator from Vermont, was going to be the main attraction at a Westlake Park rally to cel- ebrate the 80th birthday of So- cial Security and the success of other anti-poverty programs.
However, as we alluded to, things didn’t work out that way and his speech was can- celled. In essence, the protes- tors won a victory of sorts by turning attention to today’s anniversary of the shooting by a white police officer of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Mo.
Later in the evening, in front of an estimated 15,000 sup- porters, Sanders received the reception he’d expected from the Seattle area as the progres- sive alternative to Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Rodham Clinton.

Fathers To Participate In 20th
Anniversary Million Man March
ATLANTA, GA — It has been nearly 20 years since the historic Million Man March in October of 1995. Much has transpired over this time with the nation’s Black Men and Families. Recent Pew research indicates that black fathers are engaged more than any other population of fathers in the day-to-day activities and rearing of their children. “We have a long way to go, however we have made some significant progress in challenging and disproving the societal view of black fathers,” says Kenneth Braswell, Executive Director of Fathers Incorporated.
Beginning the first week in August and up until the march, the Atlanta based not- for-profit will encourage at least 20,000 Black fathers across the nation to sign “the Honorable man” pledge on its website www.millionblackfathers.com ) in order to represent the new 21st Century dad at the Octo- ber 10th, twentieth anniver- sary celebration of the Justice or Else Million Man March in Washington, DC.
“In the first couple of weeks (pre-launch) we already have signatures from fathers in 33 cities in 13 states presenting nearly 100 children. This is a clear indicator that Black fa- thers understand both the sig- nificance and importance of having their voices repre- sented on the platform of this historic and memorable occa-

For eleven weeks leading up
the march, activities will in- clude a comprehensive social media campaign to generate conversation around the prin- ciples of the “Honorable man”, to include “word of the week,” video of the week and contest challenges to sign up fathers to take the pledge. The hashtag #honorableman will be used to capture the excitement cre- ated by the effort.
The campaign launched on Monday, August 3rd. For more information to support or pro- mote the campaign, send an email to info@millionblackfa- thers.com. Hundreds gathered Sun- day at the spot where Michael Brown was killed by a white police officer to mark the first anniversary of the shooting that rocked the nation and shined a spotlight on race rela- tions in America.
Brown's father, Michael Brown Sr., shared a few words during a silent march to thank those who stood by him since his 18-year-old son was killed.
"I miss you boy," the father said.
Erica Snipes is the daugh- ter of Eric Garner, an un- armed black man who died in New York after an officer put him in a chokehold, She told the crowd that elected officials must be held accountable.
Rows of teddy bears, flowers and balloons sat in the middle of the road as a growing open air memorial to the younger Brown. A more permanent memorial — an image of a dove carved into a cement sidewalk — was nearby. At 12:02 p.m., a 4 1/2-minute moment of si- lence represented the time Wil- son shot Brown and the length of time his lifeless body lay in the street.

Brown's father then led a march from the spot where his son died to nearby Greater St. Mark Family Church. Along the way, at the corner of Cham- bers Road and West Florissant Avenue, Brown and hundreds of marchers stopped for an- other 4 1/2 minutes of silence to remember Brown's son.
The elder Brown and some supporters wore "Chosen 4 Change" shirts, a reference to the nonprofit foundation he helped start. Signs in the crowd included "Racism is destroying Amerikkka" and "Stop killing black children" and "Respect and protect the black woman."
