Retired Educator Dies After Stroke
Mrs. Julia Jackson, a longtime educator in Hills- borough County and lifetime member of Beulah Baptist Church, passed away Sunday night in a local hospital. She was 84.
Mrs. Jackson had trav- eled to Tennessee in July to check on her grandson, whom she was helping get through medical school. She suffered a stroke and heart attack there, and was brought back to Tampa on her urgency to be buried at home.
According to her son, Eu- gene Jackson, his mother taught at Booker T. Washing- ton, Middleton High School,

Brandon High School, and Oak Park Elementary, where she retired from in 1991 after becoming ill.
“That was the first time she suffered a heart attack, and
that forced her to retire. “Prior to the heart attack, she had been doing quite well and spent a lot of time with her family. She was a true professional and fully dedi- cated to helping children. We are all very proud to have had her as a mother and role
model.”
Mrs. Jackson was the
mother of four children, and according to her son, Eu- gene, she was a true fighter and fought to the very end.
“She truly didn’t want to leave her family, and she will be sorely missed by all of us.”
The family is making arrangements for a service.

A memorial service for Mr. William Lee Greene will be held Friday, August 14, 2015, at 7 p. m. at College Hill C.O.G.I.C., 6414 N. 30th Street, Tampa, 33610.

A popular Tampa minister died on Friday following a lengthy illness. He was 89- years-old.
A native of the Cayman Is- lands, Rev. Dr. Charles Crowe Carlman, relocated to Tampa in 1945. Prior to moving to Tampa, Dr. Carl- man had obtained his Theo- logical Certification from God’s Bible School. He later received an honorary degree from the American Bible Society, Mrs. Phylis Carlman, his wife of 47 years said.
In 1965, Dr. Carlman launched the Caribbean World Missions in the Caribbean Is- lands. The organization was

designed to help pastors who didn’t have a retirement.
The organization also pro- vided assistance to other is-
lands, including Haiti and Ja- maica. It provided supplies for the students, teachers, and hospitals, Mrs. Carlman said.
“We lived here, but wher- ever he went, he made contact with a church and had a repre- sentative in that city. He had a representative in Russia, Japan, and other cities.”
Mrs. Carlman said Dr. Carlman closed the organiza- tion in 2009.
In addition to his wife, Dr. Carlman is survived by 2 daughters and 1 son.
Funeral services will take place at Riverhills Church Of God on Saturday, August 15th. Wilson Funeral Home is in charge of handling arrange- ments.
Former Central Park Village Resident Dies Of Heart Failure
Former Central Park Village resident, Mr. Victor Davis, passed away Friday at a Tem- ple Terrace hospital. He was 53.
Davis, a father of 5, was di- agnosed with a heart condition in 2007, and in 2008, he had a pacemaker installed in his chest. He had to leave his job as a caterer for Lupton’s Restaurant, and for the past seven years, he has been in and out of the hospital. He had been put on a list for a heart transplant.
Davis was the 13th of 15 children born to Daniel and Mattie Davis. He attended Meacham and Grady Elemen- tary Schools, Monroe Middle School, and briefly at Robin- son High School. He eventu-

ally graduated from Hillsbor- ough High School, and be- came a shoe shine boy in the downtown area near the Floridian Hotel, Greyhound
Bus Station, City Hall and Wolf Brothers.
Davis secured a job at Logan’s Lumber Company be- fore moving on to Luptons.
Tracie Jennings and Ciara Davenport, close friends of Davis, described him as a people person who loved to dress, especially in his converse shoes. He was will known as being Mr. Con- verse .
“He called me numerous nights when he was sick, and I or my daughter or family members would go and stay with him or take him to the hospital. He endured a lot, and now I can say he is pain free.”
Aiken’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for the family.
