Filming Girl Group Drama For FOX
Lee Daniels’ success with Empire has led to new proj- ects.
The popularity of FOX's Lee Daniels’-directed series “Em- pire” has the network demand- ing more music industry drama from Daniels -- FOX has teamed up with Daniels again to film a pilot for a show called Star.
Fox TV Group chairman and CEO Dana Walden said in a statement, "Like Empire, it's set against the backdrop of the music business but from a dif- ferent perspective," Walden said. Daniels provided the outline for the show, and will write, executive produce and direct Star.
While Empire is told from the point of view of music execs, Star will reportedly be from the point of view of three girls from ATL, who rise to fame and all their challenges in the music industry (the story of TLC?). Walden says the show will mix music and drama, just like Empire.
FOX is extending the rela- tionship with Daniels ever since the success of Empire, which revived the network after slipping in ratings.
Will.I.am has reportedly 'quit' The Voice after four years as a coach on the show.
The Black Eyed Peas star, 40, has allegedly told BBC bosses that he will not return for the fifth series of the talent compe- tition when filming starts next month.
And according to the Daily Star's James Ingham pro- ducers of the BBC one show were 'desperate' for Will to change his mind offering the star a big pay out that he turned down, saying it was time he moved on. Producers of the show, who already lost pop star Rita Ora to the X Factor this year, are reportedly doing 'everything' they can to persuade Will to stay as a coach but the star has made up his mind. The original mentor has been a permanent fixture on the show since it first hit

Dr. Dre is reportedly worth over $700 million, so he is clearly not hurting for money. The legendary producer is for- going collecting royalties from his latest album Compton: A Soundtrack in order to donate his profits from the project to

Will, who also works as a record producer and has col- laborated with the likes of Justin Bieber, Rihanna and Miley Cyrus, is said to be confused over the impact the show's winning contestants - including his own act Leah McFall - have failed to make on the music industry.
