President Barack Obama signs bill.
President Barack Obama
signed a bill into law which re- moves outdated terms for mi- norities from federal laws. The federal government will now use words like African-Ameri- can and Asian-American in- stead of “Negro” and “Oriental”.
H.R.4238 passed unani-
sentatives and the Senate fol- lowed by President Obama’s approval on Friday. Represen- tative Grace Meng (D-NY) first introduced the bill in De- cember of 2015.
“Many Americans may not be aware that the word ‘Oriental’ is derogatory. But it is an insulting term that needed to be removed from the books, and I am ex- tremely pleased that my legisla- tion to do that is now the law of the land,” Meng said in a state- ment.
The bill was co-sponsored by all 51 members of the Congres- sional Asian Pacific American Caucus. So far, the move is being well-received.
Young Vietnamese Rapper Performs A Few Bars To President’s Beat Box Rhythm
President Barack Obama provided the beat box rhythm for Vietnamese rap- per, Suboi’s performance.
The President was answering questions at a townhall-style meeting in Vietnam Wednesday when a young woman told him she was a rapper before asking a question. Pres. Obama asked her to perform a few bars and did a brief beat box rhythm.
"Do you need a little beat?" Pres. Obama asked her.
"Go ahead, c'mon." "Vietnam or English?" she asked.
"In Vietnamese, of course, but I won't know what it means," the President replied.
The woman complied and busted out a few bars, getting the audience of 800 young people to clap along with her. She later told the president that the rap was about people with money and big houses not being happy.
The rapper was later revealed to be 26-year-old Hàng Lâm Trang Anh, a performer known here by her stage name Suboi and considered by some to be the nation's "queen of hip hop."
VIETNAM -- Pres. Barack Obama had dinner with chef Anthony Bourdain on Tues- day at a “hole-in-the-wall” restaurant in Hanoi, Vietnam, the BBC reports. The dinner was filmed for an upcoming episode of Bourdain’s CNN show “Parts Unknown,” which re- turns for its 8th season this fall.
The menu included búnchả, a traditional spread of pork, broth, rice noodles and greens.
“Low plastic stool, cheap but delicious noodles, cold Hanoi beer,” Bourdain tweeted. “The

President’s chopstick skills are on point,” he added on Instagram. The total bill, according to Bourdain, was just $6. “I picked
up the check,” he announced.
Federal Judge Rules Ohio’s Voting Cutbacks Are ‘Unconstitutional’
President Obama Hits Highest Job Approval Since Second Inauguration
A federal judge ruled Tuesday that Ohio’s cutbacks to early voting are unconstitutional and violate the Voting Rights Act because they give African-Americans “less op- portunity to participate in the po- litical process compared to other voters” in past elections.
In 2014, Ohio’s Republican- controlled legislature eliminated in-person early voting on the weekends and during weekdays after 5p.m. It also passed a law that ended “Golden Week,” a period of time in which Ohioans could both register and vote on the same day. Golden Week was created in 2005 as a response to the hours-long lines of the 2004 presidential elec- tion, when tens of thousands of would-be voters left their polling
places in frustration without cast- ing their ballots.
Judge Michael H. Watson — who was appointed by Presi- dent George W. Bush — ruled that “the elimination of the extra days for [early in-person] voting provided by Golden Week will dis- proportionately burden African Americans,” citing expert and an- ecdotal evidence. He added that being forced to vote on another day or on Election Day would sim- ply result in longer lines.
“African Americans will dispro- portionately bear this burden, be- cause ... they have greater time and resource limitations that may pre- vent them from waiting in line on Election Day and are less likely to vote absentee,” he wrote.
As the race to succeed Presi- dent Barack Obama rages around him, the man who cur- rently sits in the Oval Office has hit his highest approval rating since his second inauguration, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows.
Fifty-one percent (51%) of registered voters say they ap- prove of the job President Obama is doing as president, compared to 46% who disap- prove.
The last time more than half of the electorate gave the Pres- ident a thumbs up in the poll was in January 2013, when he took the oath of office after his successful re-election campaign against Republican Mitt Rom- ney.
His approval rating sunk as low as 40% before the 2014 midterm elections, but rebounded, since primary voting in the 2016 presi- dential race got underway at the beginning of this year.
