Walker and
Gospel Festival Will Feature Vital Information For West Tampa Residents
On Saturday, May 28th, the Main Street Gospel Festival and Voters Registration Drive will be held from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at 2128 West Main Street.
Aside from an array of in- vited guests, a representative from the Hillsborough County Property Appraisers Office will be available for questions.
West Tampa community leaders asked that a represen- tative from that office come to this event to inform residents on how their property taxes will be impacted by the devel- opment projects proposed for the area.
Community leaders are asking that the targeted area should end on the east side of Oregon Avenue, and residents living west of that boundary should be exempt from an in- crease in property taxes.
Dwight Bolden, one of the organizers for the Gospel Festival, said residents are asking for a guarantee in writ- ing that their property taxes will not be rising after all of the redevelopment projects have been completed.
“We don’t want to see any- one losing their homes be- cause their property taxes are too high. That tactic has worked successfully in other areas, and resulted in the city obtaining property for its pro- posed projects.
“The proposed city proj-
ects are a good thing, but need to be put in perspective and discussed with the residents as to how they will be accom- plished, and at what cost.”
Bolden said it’s impor- tant that residents attend the Gospel Festival, because in- formation that will be made available at that event will be valuable and important for their future.
“It’s not fair for the resi- dents of West Tampa to have their history snatched away because of a redevelopment plan.
“There must be more dia- logue between the powers that be and the people so nothing comes as a surprise.”
Scheduled to appear at the Gospel Festival are Reggie Bryant, Christ of Calvary Community Church’s Praise Team, artists from Kuluwm Recording Studio, C-Rene’, and Evangelist Develyn Garrison. There will also be other church choirs and praise teams performing as well as local candidate out- reach forums and guest speakers.
DJ Randall C will be the host.
