Gordon Hayward Suffers Broken Leg In Celtics Debut
Gordon Hayward’s Boston Celtics career got off to the worst start imagina- ble.
The for- ward suffered
a serious break six min-
utes into his Celtics debut.
The team
later said he
had a broken ankle.
Hayward was going up for an alley-oop and collided with two Cleveland Cavaliers defenders in the first quarter of the opening game of the NBA season. He landed with his leg snapping behind him.
TNT announcer Kevin Harlan immediately said Hayward had suffered a bro- ken leg.
Celtics players huddled up and prayed for their player as things got quiet on the court.
Hayward, who chose to sign with the Celtics as a free agent over the summer, was carted away on a stretcher.

Nuggets To Sign Richard Jefferson, Waive Jameer Nelson
RICHARD JEFFERSON Richard Jefferson did
not take long to find a new home after being traded to At- lanta and then waived.
ESPN’s Adrian Woj- narowski reported Monday that Jefferson agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the Denver Nuggets after clearing waivers.
Jefferson was traded to the Hawks on Friday, who promptly waived him. Denver needs to clear a roster spot in order to sign Jefferson. Wo- jnarowski says they are ex- pected to waive guard Jameer Nelson to make it happen.
Warriors Lose After Kevin Durant Shot Waved Off At Buzzer
KEVIN DURANT
The Golden State Warriors lost to the Houston Rockets 122-121 on opening night in the NBA Tuesday after a last- second shot by Kevin Du- rant was waved off upon review.
The Warriors led by nine at the half and by 16 in the third quarter, but Houston stuck around and challenged the Warriors in the fourth quarter. The Rockets finally caught the Warriors and took the lead in the final minute on a pair of free throws made by P. J. Tucker.
Steph Curry attempted a 3-pointer on the Warriors’ final possession for the win and missed, but Durant got the ball from Shaun Liv- ingston and attempted a shot at the buzzer. The shot went in but left his hand a fraction of a second after the buzzer.
Teddy Bridgewater Cleared To Practice By Doctor

It has been well over a year since Teddy Bridge- water took part in an official practice with the Minnesota Vikings, but the quarterback has reportedly been cleared to do just that starting this week.
Bridgewater was cleared to return on Monday by the doctor who performed surgery on his dislocated knee last year. The next step will likely be the Vikings re- moving him from the physi- cally unable to perform list.
Bridgewater, 24, suf- fered a horrific knee injury in training camp last year and missed the entire 2016 sea- son. He began the 2017 sea- son on the PUP list, and the

Vikings now have three weeks to decide if they want to acti- vate him or place him on in- jured reserve. Since Bridgewater has been cleared by a doctor, the latter almost certainly will not hap- pen.
Cleveland Cavaliers showed exceptional sportsmanship as they checked on an injured opponent Tuesday.
Gordon Hayward suf- fered a gruesome broken ankle injury six minutes into his Boston Celtics debut. Even though he plays for the other team — Cleveland’s ex- pected top rival this season — both LeBron James and Isaiah Thomas went into the locker room to specifically check on Hayward.
James also went up to Hayward to wish him his best as he was loaded onto a stretcher.
Though the teams are ex- pected to compete for the Eastern Conference title, no- body likes to see injuries happen to their fellow play- ers.
     DeAndre Hopkins: Deshaun
Watson Means ‘Anything Is
Possible’ For Texans
Rookie quarterback De- shaun Watson has the Houston Texans firmly be- lieving in big things.
Wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins had big praise for his quarterback, saying that his success did not come as a surprise to him — and he makes the team confident in good things happening.
“From training camp when he came in and the way he handled himself in the film room, even when in training camp he wasn’t get- ting reps with the ones, he was still learning,” Hopkins said, via Sarah Barshop of ESPN. “He was still going over things, talking about it to us when he got the oppor- tunity, and it’s presented it- self.
“Nobody in this locker room is honestly surprised with the way he’s developed

so far.”
Hopkins added that
Watson’s success has led the Texans offense to adopt an aggressive killer mentality.
“Every time we step on the field, we want to score,” Hopkins said. “If we don’t, then we’re disappointed. We don’t settle for three. We know with the ball in No. 4’s hands, anything is possible.”
