Camp Registration Has Begun At Greater Mt. Carmel AME Church

After several months of strategic planning for its 4th “A Marvelous Experience in the Arts & STEM” Sum- mer Enrichment Camp, the Greater Mt. Carmel Develop- ment Corp. announces its Kickoff Event, “Thank Good- ness It’s Summer” Open House and Pizza Party. The event is on Friday, May 25, 2018. The location is Greater Mt. Carmel AME Church, 4209 N. 34th St., Tampa. The timeofthiseventis6p.m.to 8 p. m.

According to Dee Mer- ritt Bell, Coordinator, GMC’s summer ARTS Camp will offer an “8-week Music, Dance, and STEM experience that will provide extended and more intense performing arts experiences, educational outreaches and enrichment through a variety of pro- grams by reaching out to ed- ucators, local artists, families, and community partners. The Summer Enrich- ment curriculum is a unique blend of Music, Dance, STEM, Literacy, Character Development, Safety and Learning tours - (each week will include a “Safety” Curriculum Activ- ity).
A different ARTS genre will be presented each week (Voice, Piano, Pantomime, Drama and several Dance genres). One of the commu- nity events will be a STEM Fair. Participants will com- pete for special incentives and prizes.
The STEM curriculum includes: BRICKS 4 KIDZ – which uses the LEGO Bricks students love, to deliver hands-on lessons related to cross-disciplinary curriculum objective. The Bricks 4 Kidz approach to learning is imag-
inative, multi-sensory and fun, creating a dynamic learning experience. The ed- ucational and developmental benefits include creativity and problem solving, organi- zation, following directions, cooperation and teamwork.
The LITERACY Cur- riculum includes MyOn: an award-winning personal- ized literacy environment that incorporates: a state-of- the art learning platform; en- hanced digital reading content; daily news articles written for students; the Lex- ile® Framework for Read- ing; cutting-edge literacy tools and embedded metrics to monitor activity and growth.
“The summer initiative will culminate with a SHOW- CASE of talents, skills, knowledge and appreciation performed by the campers. The community will have the opportunity to applaud them for their demonstrated com- mitment to succeed,” Mrs. Bell said.
This “Marvelous Experi- ence in the Arts & STEM” ini- tiative is funded in part by the Children’s Board of Hills- borough County. The Camp will begin on Monday, June 4th and conclude on Friday, July 27, 2018.

Free Youth Expo Planned For Saturday

With Friday, May 25, 2018, being the last day of this school year, Springwall Institute will be sponsoring a Youth Expo on Saturday, May 26th, 10 a. m. to 1 p. m. The free event will be held at the Robert W. Saunders, Sr. Branch Library, 1505 N. Ne- braska Ave.
Evangelist Christina Ellis will be spearheading the event.
“With summer coming upon us, we’ll be reaching out to the youth. We’ll be of- fering safety tips; the Police Dept. and Fire Dept. will be on hand; we’ll be talking about human trafficking, which is a growing trend,” she explained.
