PEARL HARBOR – A Tampa native is serving in the U. S. Navy. Petty Offi- cer 3rd Class Daniel Gon- zalez is currently assigned to one of the world’s most advanced, nuclear-powered submarines, the USS Greenville.
Petty Officer 3rd Class Gonzalez is a 2014 gradu- ate of Palm Harbor High School.
He works as a machin- ist’s mate (nuclear) serving aboard the Pearl Harbor-

based submarine, one of 56
fast-attack submarines in the U.S. Navy.
A Navy machinist’s mate (nuclear) is responsible for nuclear equipment mechan- ics and welding.
According to Navy offi- cials, because of the de- manding environment aboard submarines, person- nel are accepted only after rigorous testing and obser- vation. Submariners are some of the most highly trained and skilled people in the Navy.

MacDill Air Force Base
BATH, Maine – Petty Officer 2nd Class Eva Marie Robinson is a fire controlman assigned to DDG 116 in Bath, Maine. She is serving as part of the Pre-Commissioning Unit for the future Arleigh Burke- class destroyer.
As a fire controlman Robinson is responsible for maintaining networks that run various weapons control systems. She is a 2003 graduate of Plant High School.
DDG 116 is currently un- dergoing tests and trials in preparation for delivery to the U. S. Navy from ship-
multi-mission surface com- batants capable of conduct- ing anti-air warfare, anti-submarine warfare, anti-surface warfare, and ballistic missile defense, as well as humanitarian assis- tance.
The ship was named in honor of Thomas J. Hud- ner, Jr., a naval aviator who retired as a captain, re- ceived the Medal of Honor from President Harry S. Truman for displaying un- common valor during an at- tack on his element leader, and was the first African American naval aviator to fly in combat.
