Buccaneers Lose Preseason Opener To Dolphins, 26-24
KYLE TRASK
Training-Camp Hiatus Unrelated To Health Of Tom Brady Or His Family Members
The Tampa Bay Bucca- neers fell just short in their preseason opener Saturday night against the Miami Dol- phins, missing a last-second field goal at the buzzer to fall 26-24 to their fellow Sun- shine State club. The Bucs play the Tennessee Titans Saturday, August 20th at 7 p.m
Jose Borregales’ 49- yarder bounced off the right upright as the clock hit all ze- roes, just after the kicker had nailed a practice kick follow- ing a timeout from the Dol- phins.
After a pair of drives from veteran backup Blaine Gab-
bert, one of which ended with a 23-yard touchdown pass to Jaelon Darden, sec- ond-year quarterback Kyle Trask took over behind cen- ter for the rest of the game. The former Florida Gator de- livered an impressive per- formance, completing 25 of his 33 pass attempts for 258 yards and a touchdown.
Tampa Bay’s young wide receivers had a big night, led by Tyler Johnson’s six re- ceptions for 73 yards. Kay- lon Geiger and Jerreth Sterns combined for eight receptions and 103 yards, with Sterns hauling in a 19- yard touchdown from Trask.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady started a break of at least 10 days from his team’s training camp last week. It’s a hiatus that, per the team, had been scheduled in advance.
The only reason given for Brady leaving the team is “personal reasons.” That has sparked plenty of speculation as to what the personal rea- sons may be.
Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times reports that “[t]he scheduled absence has nothing to do with Brady’s or his family mem- bers’ health.”
So it appears that it really was/is just a break from the
Lakers Have 'Interesting Plan' For Russell Westbrook Next Season
RUSSELL WESTBROOK
The Los Angeles Lakers ap- pear to have a plan to cut down on Russell West- brook next year.
The Lakers are hoping that Westbrook will be able to improve his three-point shoot- ing percentage from the cor- ners in the 2022-23 campaign.
While many would argue that Westbrook is better off not taking threes at all, he ac- tually shot a very respectable 45.1 percent on corner threes last season. The problem is that Westbrook did it on low volume (just 51 total attempts from the corner) and shot a wretched 56/214 (26.2 per- cent) on all other three-point attempts.
TOM BRADY
training-camp grind for the 45-year-old quarterback.
It’s unclear whether Brady specifically negotiated the in-camp vacation when he
unretired, or whether it came up after that. Regardless, the Bucs aren’t about to say no to the man who puts butts in the seats and points on the board and, ultimately, cash in the coffers.
He’ll return with three weeks to prepare for the regu- lar-season opener. And even though it will be human na- ture for some who were left behind to bristle about Brady’s absence, it’s one of the benefits of being the best to ever do it. Indeed, most teams would rather have Brady with a 10-day break in camp over whoever their quarterback is with #no- daysoff.
 Son Of Ex-NBA
 All-Star Teaming Up
With Bronny James
At Sierra Canyon
Bronny James is get- ting an Anthony Davis of his own for next season.
Eric Sondheimer of the Los Angeles Times reported this week that four-star power forward Ashton Hardaway is set to transfer to Sierra Canyon High School in Chatsworth, Calif. Hardaway is the son of for- mer NBA All-Star and cur- rent University of Memphis head coach Penny Hard- away.
The 6-foot-8 Hardaway posted 10.0 points and 2.8 rebounds per game last sea- son at Duncanville High School in Duncanville, Tex. Like Bronny, he is about to enter his senior year at Sierra Canyon.
Hardaway is poised to become the fourth son of a famous NBA father on the
BRONNY JAMES
Sierra Canyon team. Other than Bronny, LeBron James’ younger son Bryce will be a sophomore there, and Justin Pippen, the youngest son of Scottie Pip- pen, will be a junior. That collection of last names will be one of many storylines to watch out for at Sierra Canyon entering the new school year.
