Young Boxer Has Goal Of Fighting In Olympics
BY LEON B. CREWS Sentinel Staff Writer
When former professional boxer John “Saw Pretty” Brooks decided to get into training, his goal was to create Tampa’s first world champion.
Coach Brooks successfully trained a lot of potential boxers. One of Coach Brooks’ pupils was a fighter known as Combo, and now Combo has contin- ued the task by passing on what he’s learned to his nephew, Cornelius “Dy- namite” Dennard.
Dynamite is only 13-years-old, but he’s already compiled an amateur record of 28-10. He recently returned to Tampa after competing in the 2015 Junior Olympics Tournament in Dade City, where he came out on top. Now, he’ll ad- vance to the regional in Atlanta, Georgia.
“His dream is to represent Tampa, his family and his country in the 2020 Olympic Games,” said Combo.
“He also wants to serve as an example to other young kids his age to do some- thing with their lives other than trying to kill each other.”
Combo said Dynamite has seen kids he knows and others fall victim to the violence that has spread all over the city, and he wants no part of that.
“He wishes he could talk to some of those guys and get them to understand that not only are they destroying their fu-

ture, but they are also robbing other youngsters of their future.
“Dynamite has managed to main- tain his grades in school, and he’s look- ing forward to attending Armwood High School this year.”
Combo said he, along with Ray- mond, have trained Dynamite since he first started, and they both are open to training other kids who are tired of what’s going on in their neighborhood.
“I would like to see all of them visit a boxing gym in the city, study the sport, and at least give it a try. Whatever it takes to take the guns out of their hands and replace them with boxing gloves, I’m in favor of it.”
The “Too Smooth Annual Birthday Bash & Comedy Show Weekend” Party kicks off Friday, April 3rd, at the TACE Lounge & Restaurant, 14380 N. Dale Mabry, Tampa, with live entertain- ment by Fanta-C, Violinist Jeffrey Nugent and James Alderman.
Saturday, April 4th, is the Comedy Show, “So Much Laughter in the Burg,” featuring comedian Bruh Man from the Martin Lawrence Show, Bat Man from St. Petersburg and notorious comedian Red Bone, at The Palladium Theater, 253 5th Ave, N., St. Petersburg.
Red Bone, known for his side- splitting stage show, has been making audiences laugh all across the country with his quick wit and unpredictable physical comedy. Without using crude language, he will have you in convul- sions and tears.
Some comics are known to attack their audience with humor, but Red Bone engages his audience and takes them on a roller coaster comedy ride they will never forget. Comical stories about his adulthood have garnered numerous comedy appearances and places him in great demand.
Red Bone's greatest talent is his stage presence and versatility, being able to perform at non-urban main- stream comedy venues (COMEDY
CENTRAL) to urban comedy venues (BET's "COMIC VIEW"). Red Bone likes to brand his comedy as "COLOR- BLIND" COMEDY where all races, creeds, and colors can enjoy his per- formance and walk away with a smile on his face.
Hailing from Savannah, Georgia, as a former car salesman, Red Bone says "This job is great, to go around and make people laugh; the adrena- line just goes right through you. It's hard being a BROTHER like me..."
