BROTHER WILLIAM EUGENE SCOTT

A Celebration of his Life, and Worship, and Praise of The Lord will be held on Satur- day, August 12, 2017 at 11 a. m. at Greater Bethel M. B. Church, Inc., 1207 N. Jefferson Street, Tampa, FL, where Reverend, Dr. Brett Snowden is Pastor and will officiate. William’s brother, Rev. Dr. Shafter Scott, Pastor of St. Mary M. B. Church, Bealsville, will deliver the eulogy. The in- terment will be held the follow- ing Monday, August 14 at 11:30 a. m. at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. Family and friends interested in attending the interment should note that the processional will leave from the Ray Williams Fu- neral Home, 301 North Howard Avenue, Tampa, FL 33606.
William (as he was affection- ately called) was born in Tampa, Florida on December 15, 1953, one of thirteen children born to Deacon Harold Billingslea Scott, Sr. (deceased) and Mrs. Lucile Willis B. Scott.
Brother William Scott spent his early years attending Harlem Elementary School, Booker T. Washington Junior High School, and Howard W. Blake Senior High School, Class of 1971 where he was called “the trombone man” due to his great talent of playing the trombone while high stepping in the school’s band.
Brother Scott matriculated to Florida A & M University where he majored in Pharmacy and of course loved the “March- ing 100.” Brother Scott lived in Tallahassee for a short while after attending FAMU and mar- ried Miss Vicky Stallworth (de- ceased). He soon enrolled into the United States Air Force.
Tampa was the place he de- cided to return to after his mili- tary stint for he wanted to be near his beloved mother. God also blessed him with a wonder- fully devoted and Christian wife, Mrs. Cheryl Seay Scott and to this union one child was born, Curtis Eugene Scott. Curtis was always the gleam in his father’s eye. William and his siblings were nurtured to know God and to believe in His Son, The Lord Jesus Christ.
Greater Bethel M. B. Church was pivotal in Brother Scott’s Christian Education all of his life. This is where he attended with his parents and siblings, Sunday School, the SunShine Band, Baptist Youth Training Union, Ambassadors, Angels Choir, Youth Choir, and the Lily White Youth Group.
He accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior after learning of Him and having per- sonal encounters with Him. He had a great love for God’s church and God blessed him with a deep, melodious
base/baritone singing voice, often singing historical hymns and gospels with his older broth- ers, singing with the Male Cho- rus and the Harmonettes/Mass Choir.
Later, Brother Scott and his wife were also active members of Christ United Methodist Church in Tampa, where she is a Lay Minister and he continued to use his gift of singing to praise God. He appeared as a guest soloist at church events and with the James A. Haley Veterans Hospital Gospel Choir. What- ever were his medical and psy- chological challenges God kept him in His care as He promised!
William’s actions demon- strated his love for his mother in presenting her with gifts, visits, calls, kisses and hugs. For years whatever he had he was sure to share with his mother. He loved visiting his siblings and their children, and being best friends through the years with Brother Willie Ambrose Escalante and wife Joy. He would debate life is- sues with you until the sun went down and you were totally spent!
Brother Scott loved the members of Greater Bethel M. B. Church who accepted him in spite of. Special to him was his love for Mrs. Mary Alice Dorsett and her love, care, and concern shown for him and his family. Many friends, neighbors, rela- tives, church members, will miss Brother Scott’s smile, jok- ing, reflecting, and yes even his debating, but none more than his sister, Harriet who traveled many of their life paths together in early life to adulthood.
