NEW TAMPA POLICE CHIEF SWORN INTO OFFICE
Last Friday, Assistant Chief Eric Ward was sworn into office as the new Chief of the Tampa Police Department. Circuit Judge Ronald Ficarrotta administered the oath at the Tampa Police Department in downtown Tampa. Chief Ward re- places retired Chief Jane Castor, who ended her five years of leadership in the position earlier this month. Chief Ward is a Tampa native and the second African American to lead the department of nearly 1,000 sworn officers. He was con- firmed by a unanimous vote by members of City Council on Thursday. Mayor Bob Buckhorn, Chief Ward’s family and several city employees were on hand for the ceremony. Chief Ward, third from the left, is shown with his family mem- bers from left to right: son, Eric Ward, Jr., daughter, Ms. Nicole Ward, his wife, Mrs. Alberta Ward, his mother, Mrs. Lutricia Ward, and Howard Ward.
