Mother Of 8 Killed In Traffic Accident

A Tampa native and the mother of 8 children died on Saturday night at a local hospital. She had been struck by a vehicle on Friday, September 1st.
According to the Tampa Police Department, the accident took place at shortly after 11 a.m. Ms. Sylvia Holton, 59, of Tampa was attempting to cross N. 40th Street in front of the River Pines Apart- ment Complex, 7517 N. 40th Street, when the acci- dent occurred.
Police said Rudolph Andre Ingram, 26, of Tampa, was driving a 2000 Infinity G35 when Ms. Holton reportedly stepped off the median into the path of the vehicle. She was not in the pedestrian crosswalk at the time of the accident.
The police report stated Ms. Holton was struck by the front bumper of the vehicle and transported to a local hospital by ambulance.
Ingram was not cited in the accident and did not report any injuries to police. The investigating officer stated in the report that Ingram was travel- ing an estimated 40 miles per hour, which is the posted speed limit.
Ms. Holton was admitted to Tampa General Hospital, where she underwent surgery and was placed on life support As a result of the multiple in- juries she received as a result of the accident. She never recovered.

A Tampa native, Ms. Holton was the youngest
child born to the late Daniel and Lillian Holton, Sr.
She attended the public schools of Hillsborough County. She graduated from Hillsborough High School in 1976, and continued her education at Hillsborough Community College. She was disabled at the time of her death.
She is survived by her companion, Governor Smith, and children: Howard Tyson, Jr., Feli- cia Danzey, Maurice Danzey, the late Christo- pher Britton, Lillian Holton, Twiman Roberts, Jr., Keith Morgan, Jr., and Charletta Morgan; 11 grandchildren; 2 sisters; 6 brothers; other family members and friends.
Funeral services were incomplete at press time.

Ms. Holton was a resident of the River Pines Apartment Complex, a senior citizen community. She had exited the HART bus and was returning to her apartment when the accident occurred.
